Today I received the job description for my new role and they have changed it completely from what was originally proposed. The original proposal was my current role with SLIGHT changes. But my new role now is entirely removed from what I have been doing for the past 5 years.
The issue is my new role is entirely technical (as opposed to creative) and I'm worried about my brain fog causing issues. I have communicated this to them and am waiting on a response. Essentially I'm going to have to have "a forensic approach to my role" (word for word from job description) and this is something I am going to really struggle with.
I wondered if anyone could give me some advice on the situation?

They have responded and said that if I struggle then they will make adjustments to my role. I'm still on furlough at the moment so when I start work again I'll see how it goes. Thanks for all the great advice.

Hie, talk to your employers, let them know your condition, and do what makes you feel comfortable within yourself. You have to try to reduce your stress levels by not worrying but being to do the best that you can, or you can also try to reduce your hours that you work or to work part time. Hope that helps.
If ur employer comes back being difficult maybe say that u will either give it a go on the understanding (in writing) that if u find it too difficult because of ur condition that u will have to stop.
Otherwise get ur dr to write them a letter stating that due to ur condition this is not a suitable role for u and the stress of being made to do it would exacerbate ur condition.
Say u understand obviously the reasons why this has had to be done but it's not suitable for ur medical needs.
I've essentially said I'm happy to do the role, but if I'm bad at it it's due to my disability. Kind of just covering my own back so to speak. I'm not expecting them to change my role, but I expect them to be understanding of I struggle and work out options if it comes to that.
When you say you've communicated this to them does this mean HR too? They should be making reasonable adjustments to help you, not make things harder. That's awful. Is there an occupational health person you can speak to? X
Hi, are you in a Union? If you are speak to your representative. I do not know employment law but this sounds unfair and unlawful to me. I totally understand your concerns and really hope you can get support. Good luck x
I agree with the others. Get legal advice or see if anyone at citizens advice knows the law about this. If not CA then find a professional legal firm with employment law knowledge. It Must be worth the cost of a consultation. I’m assuming that you probably are not in a union as you are in a very small company but if you are in one, that would be a good place too.
Why are they changing your role? Are you risking redundancy if you don’t accept the new role? If not, then ask to be given the job you agreed on, your old job with a few small changes. Don’t agree to something that might give you additional stress every day and make you health worse when you all agreed to something that was reasonable for you to do. What would happen if you refused a new role and wanted to stay doing your current job?
Essentially they've made a change of heart about the business and my current role will no longer be needed. They've responded to my concerns now and said we'll see how it goes but if I struggle they'll try to make adjustments. Guess I'll have to accept that for now as I'm still furloughed at the moment anyway.
Really I just wanted to make sure they were fully aware, if it becomes an issue then my back is covered now as I have in writing that they will make adjustments when needed.
Hi, you are entitled to give your new role a trial for 4 weeks, after that you can apply for an extension for more training. If you go on acas website it has all the info on there. Unfortunately most bosses are being arsy as they seem to be trying to get rid of people without having to pay redundancy. Hope you find the answers you need
Hi, like i said in my post acas are very good. All employees have to follow acas code of conduct. There is info on there about disability and your rights. When you go back keep a diary of how you are treated each day, might help if you have to speak with your bosses.
