Successful Lupus Diet?

Has anyone had any success with a specific Lupus diet? I’ve tried lots of different medication a lot of which don’t work very well/ have horrid side effects and am keen to see what else I can do to try and reduce my symptoms. Any advice on specific diets and/or cook books would be really helpful! I know it won’t replace the actual medication, but surly there must be other things that I can do to help reduce Lupus symptoms.

Hi you could try bone broth - I’ve been having it every day for about 5 months now and there is definitely a difference in my fatigue and all my other symptoms- I get mine from Amazon as tried making it myself but it tasted disgusting x

Look at the AIP diet. Quite tough...but I’m going to do it.

Hello Belle, We religiously use the bone broth and also I make or buy kefir to drink everyday as part of our diet. You can buy kefir from large supermarkets. It’s the strongest probiotic. Tastes like yogurt. We changed our diet more fish and vegetables. But bone broth is the key to get the strength we need. I invested into a pressure cooker which helps to make chicken broth or bone broth if you want to make it at home. Or as Svfarmer suggested, you can buy it on amazon. We drink a cup a day or every other day.

Hope this helps... with love, Lale x

Thank you all! I’d heard about bone broth, but haven’t tried it so will give it a go and will also look into kefir to see how I can add it to my diet. We’ve changed our diet to have more fish and veg, and I’ve more or less given up on gluten, although not gluten free, just gluten avoidance 😉I’ve not looked at the AIP diet, but will have a look into that as well.

Thanks and stay safe! X

I also think that getting the alkaline and acid balance right helps us a lot. We never have fried food for instance or tinned. Drinking water with lemon pieces also help us... simple things with big impact... Kefir is best to drink during the day not on an empty stomach, but feel free to try which ever works for you. Lots of love, Lale x

Hi Belle_uk ,

If you haven't seen it already, I'd recommend that you take a look at our article at lupusuk.org.uk/diet-and-hea...

It is important to be cautious about radical changes to your diet. There are a few unethical people out there touting 'cures' for lupus. You must bear in mind that lupus presents differently for everyone and what works for one person may not work for another or could be potentially harmful.

It is best to discuss any radical changes with your doctor before starting them in case they need to warn you of any potential adverse effects of interactions with your treatment.
