Hi biddy75,

I have received a shielding letter from NhsScotland to say that I come into the high risk category and should stay isolated for 12 weeks.

I have many chronic illnesses including active SLE. I take immunosuppressive treatment and steroids., and other meds.

The letter does say it is suitable for employers.

Hope this helps

Take care and stay safe

If you have received that letter then your GP obviously is concerned for you. While the guidance given is not set by law I think it is of utmost importance to follow the medical advice. It will not only keep you safe but it will protect the NHS.

If you choose to go against their advice that is obviously your personal choice. But if you land up in hospital or on a ventilator it may mean that someone else doesn't get a bed or a ventilator at all.

I don't mean to sound harsh but that is the reality that we are looking at.

Doctors making the choice about who gets treatment and who doesn't. That's a terrible thing to expect of anyone. So if you've been advised by the medical professionals to stay isolated, then for your safety and the safety of others then in my opinion, you really should.

But obviously that is just my opinion.

Thanks, I work for the gp practice that sent me the letter and just wanted an outside opinion. I understand fully the repercussions I just feel quilty as my colleagues are working away on the frontline putting themselves in danger.

Stay safe out there x

I totally get the guilt!! I'm an ex critical and emergency medicine trained nuree who is ventilator competent. I got made medically retired because of AI disease and an immune deficiency. It is torture to not walk out of my house, drive to the hospital and work amoungst my ex-colleagues. It feels terrible that I can't help.

But like you, I have to help the NHS by staying well and healthy.

Don't feel guilty. You'd be at the thick of it if you could.

Can you do any work from home so you are still helping the team out

Your colleagues will understand. They sent you the letter! Don't beat yourself up.

I did ask about remote access but unfortunately due to confidentiality I can’t work from home . It’s horrible being well but having to stay at home. Hope you stay safe

Hi! I also work in a GP practice and I got my letter so Im off work now for 12 weeks. Like you I feel so guilty, as everyone is anxious and scared of the virus, even healthy people, as watching the news is scary, so many healthy people have died. Ive heard of a few people were I live locally who have died from it, although they were over 70 but still otherwise were healthy, another lady only 55 yrs and in a coma. I live in N Ireland and it just seems to be getting worse by the day! So Im really relieved to have got this letter, your collegues Im sure understand this is out of your control. Take care everyone, I hope this all passes soon x.

Biddy is really is, I never thought people in my wee area would become infected, sometimes you seem to imagine it will never come that close, but I know of some young men only there 20’s on ventilators, its petrifying. Just praying the world gets the grip on this awful virus and we can enjoy freedom and life again. Praying for all the families out there affected by this xx ❤️

It’s advisory but should anything happen at work you may have voided your insurance as you have been advised not to be there.
