Pip assessment

Hi everyone, you may remember a couple of months ago i was feeling anxious & stressed that I was to move from Dla & was to attend my 1st Pip appointment. I am pleased to say that I was successful in getting the Enhanced Mobility & Enhanced Care allowance. The relief I feel about it, you would think I had been for a job interview or sitting A levels and waiting for the results. I was extremely lucky that the lady who did my assessment an ICU nurse, was very helpful with the answers and did not put me under too much pressure, or ask me too move out of my wheelchair, she just checked what strength I had & said that I had a lot of muscle wastage. I just hope that it will be a good while before I need to go for another assessment.

Good luck anyone who is going for your assessment or waiting to hear the results of yours.

I am so pleased for you. The relief is immense when you get the result you need. It is great that you had an assessor who was considerate too x

Thank you, I was very fortunate, especially as i had been expecting to have to appeal

They put me through two separate assessments four weeks apart. In total 31/2 hours of questioning. I put in a formal complaint which Capita accepted and gave me £75 compensation. I too was granted the higher rate of both but only until 2021.

I can imagine your relief :) We're waiting to hear about my sons application, he had help from the Royal Society for the Blind. A lady came to my home to fill the forms in with him, fingers crossed xx

I will keep mine crossed. Also don't let them see him being independant, help him at every opportunity. If you have extra copies of hospital letters or from any other care giver & ask if they have seen them & if not would they like to see them.

Good luck for you both.

Thank you. In the house he's very independent, he looks after himself and he's had a variety of support workers to help him over the last 12 years. He suffers from agoraphobia, panic attacks and is very fearful of going outside by himself. The employment service is familiar with his problems and they've been very understanding so far. He's also partially sighted.

I helped him fill in the last application a few years ago and that was awarded, I think he'll be ok with this one too. I hope so, much as I'd much rather see him out and about making friends and working. As things are I doubt he'll ever work again. He's 51....sigh.
