Hi I just wondered if anyone else with SLE experiences numbness and tingling in there fingers. It's just started this last week and I've also had aching and funny sensory skin feelings in my forearms. Thanks

All fingers? Some fingers? Both hands?

Yes I get this, it goes away once I have my anticoagulant. I have SLE and APS. Might be worth getting tested for APS - antiphospholipid antibody syndrome.

I had tingling in my hands as initial symptoms. It found it strange and scary. They were called paresthesias and called a constitution symptom. Much later I was told I had low level CNS symptoms so it has never been clear if that was related. Recently, I had a buzzing down my arm and sometimes felt like my hand had been put in an electrical outlet. That turned out to be a nerve compression in my neck and is fine now. I was tested for Lyme disease and certain immunologlobulins that may indicate if it was related to neuropathy from my autoimmune disease, though. You can probably hear that these symptoms can be a lot of things. I think you definitely should see a doctor. You will feel much better getting an explanation, and your doctor can refer to your rheumatologist or another specialist depending on the cause. Hope you feel better and get some reassurance. K

Unfortunately yes I’ve also got desensitised to heat but have Raynods but sometimes the tingling comes from a trapped nerve in my shoulder but it is the hole hand that goes numb

Yes, l experienced tingling in my hands as initial symptoms before it progressed to stiffness to my fingers. I was diagnosed with tendinitis and after time was then considering having surgery before things progressed and was dignoised with SLE.

Hello;

Yes I have SLE and I have this, and have the tingling feeling from time to time. However, I get it in fingers, toes, legs, and arms. This has been going on for several years? Comes and usually only last a short time? Doctors have told me it is nerve damage from Lupus?

Wishing you the best!

Yes indeed, I have numbness in half my right hand and in patches on both feet. Previously, I have experienced tingling and numbness in my right for arm which was reversed with a steroid injection into my neck. Now transient tingling and numbness, especially in response to the cold are symptoms of Raynaud's and it is fairly common for people with lupus to also have Raynaud's. However, if it is more persistent then it can be a sign of the nervous system being "pranged", as my neurologist put it, by the SLE. My lupus consultant referred me to a neurologist for numb patches and I am monitored, have tests and he liaises with my rheumatologist. In January, I had a dose of intravenous corticosteroids to help with the progression of the numbness and this has improved things a lot for me. I would suggest that you should certainly report it and get it checked out. Wishing you the very best Lily

Hiya, It was one of my presenting symptoms, shortly after Raynaud's with numbness in my feet. All of a sudden I started to get tingling, almost like cold water sensations, over my toes. It progressed to my fingers and was much more obvious around any blowing air conditioning. I still get it every day(without air conditioning), particularly in the morning and at night two years later. The Rheumatologist and Neurologist have logged it as a symptom. Neurologist did some nerve testing with no real result. No one has mentioned it since, except I continue to put it on the list of symptoms I hand over at Rheumatology appts. I will say though that the sensation has lessened since being on Cellcept for 10 months. I only get it in my toes now.

Hi Hhood,

Have you spoken to your GP or rheumatologist about this?

We are not medically trained here therefore, we wouldn't be able to say what the cause of your symptoms may be. However, a tingling sensation in both the feet and hands can be caused by a few different factors.

One factor could be due to Raynaud’s phenomenon, this can cause extremities to sometimes change colour, become painful and cause the person to experience a ‘tingling’ sensation.

To learn about Raynaud's read our blog article at lupusuk.org.uk/coping-with-...

The other factor could be due to Polyneuropathy. Polyneuropathy typically affects the nerves that are responsible for sensation and feeling things. Damage to these nerves can cause numbness and tingling of the feet more commonly than the hands.

Best wishes!
