After my disparaging comments about the PIP process, I've just opened today's post to find that I've been awarded the enhanced rate of PIP for both the daily living needs and the mobility needs sections.
I only just scraped in with 12 points for each, but that's far better than I was anticipating. They don't provide any specific feedback, just the score for each sub-category. Some things I think did help:
1. It was a home visit, so the assessor was able to see a lot of evidence that confirmed my account, like the notice for the door that tells delivery people to knock and then leave packages in the porch, the way my throne is set up with everything I need for the day within reach, the dropped and abandoned tablets on the floor(!) and so on.
2. Professional coroboration from the community OT - who had got a second stair-rail fitted, and provided a raised toilet seat, bath hoist etc
3. I made a list of all the little things that I need to use as aids that I forgot to put on the form, like the grabber, 'easy-grip' aids, and the tricks that I use to help with everyday tasks like feeding the cat, putting socks on etc
4. I knew that I would need to be relaxed in the assessment to remember eveything, so I told myself that this was 'just another assessment' and aimed to be as open about how things really are as I could be.
Whether that had anything to do with the result I don't know. Maybe I just lucked out and got a decent human being as an assessor?

Yipeee yippee yay there is some decency in the world of PIP after all!! - I couldn’t be more relieved and pleased for you Mike! You got it at enhanced rate because you absolutely deserved it at enhanced rate!!
Not that others don’t deserve it too of course - but it’s just so good to know that there is some real justice out there sometimes. XX

Thanks misty. And there are lots of other people worse off than me of course. But selfishIy. I am mainly making a list of things to do with the money this evening. A cleaner is definitely top of the list. But it also means I'll be able to afford to stay in the more accessible hotel for my daughter's leaving celebration next month. Extra pleased about that x

As someone who was awarded 0 points this week I'm so glad you have had better news. I really hope this money helps to make things a little easier for you. There are so many hidden costs of living with illnesses such as ours. Take care and enjoy
Oh, they don't know what they have donme. I will be unleashing a tidal wave of currency liquidity that will make the banking crisis of 2008 look like a children's tea party. A cleaner once a fortnight! Someone to cut back the hedges in the garden!... Um...a mobility scooter (up to £800!!!!!)....a handyperson to hammer some nails in so the telephone cable doesn't keep tripping me up!.. ..er.....biscuits! Mwahahahhahaaaaa!
Well done! I was very worried about your piano! Actually, I think a home appt can be helpful. Wish mine could see my throne with all in reach, the general state of the place ( vacuums are incredibly heavy) and anything not in reach is piled up haphazardly. I could do with a one off cleaning session from companies who do student accommodation at the end of the year, but that requires tidying every single room before hand!
I would say that everyone should say that they need a home assessment because if u go to the assessment u have already lost points by getting there!! The whole system is upside down..a kinda reverse psychology if u like. I had a home assessment when I was stuck..and I mean trapped..literally in a bedroom on the third floor of a house..the assessor had to climb two lots of stairs..the second climb being very steep attic stairs!! By the time she made it to my bedroom she looked as if she was about to have a cardiac arrest!!! 😩I'm very happy for u and u can relax n spend some cash..could I borrow a tenner? 🤑
