PLEURISY/PLEURAL EFFUSION

I have had pleural effusion for 4 weeks now but the pain is still intense and it's not going away. I have SLE and other illnesses and have had this before but didn't take long to settle. Was in hospital with it where they did a scan and discovered I also had a couple of cysts and enlarged nodules on my lungs the biggest being 3.5cm on my left lung. I am worried course these might be cancerous. The doctors said not to worry but I am. The fluid is in the left lung but the doctors just gave me dehydrocodine and said to buy ibuprofen which i told them was allegic to. Said to see my Rheumatologist for plan on treatment and he is fully booked until end of october.

Just wondering if anyone has had this and what the treatment was. When I had pleurisy before my rheumatolologist put me on high dose of prednisolone for 3 weeks and the pain settled within a few days. I'm worried and in pain. Any info will help.!

Go to your GP - turn up to the practice if necessary if they won't give you an emergency appointment over the phone. Tell them what you have told us - and get them to arrange an emergency appointment with the rheumy. Your GP can probably provide some pred too.

I'm assuming you are in the UK - since you say prednisolone and ibuprofen.

I agree with PMRpro...in case it’s useful: i need antibiotics + prednisolne to clear my version of pleurisy. Take care

Thanks Barnclown, i will do that. I told the doctors but refused to give me said because I have Lupus the rheumy should do it. X
