Hi guys,

I’ve recently been diagnosed and still don’t know how to go about this. Can anyone recommend a shampoo and skin care?

I use Aveeno to wash with, also as a moisturiser, on repeat prescription. Dermalogica skin care products are also very good, try find an experienced beauty therapist who can advise what’s best for your skin. Avoid anything with colour/dye, as can cause skin irritation. Look out for isopropyl miristrate in list of ingredients, a definite no no, it’s in lots of products & an irritant.

After 2 years I have settled with all Nivea products for face and body but we are all different. I recently started to use the Australian products called MOO GOO - for newborns and nursing Mothers. Really really good - contain just goats milk and things like olive oil. Try Johnson all in one shampoo and body wash for babies. Very good. For teeth Duraphat 5000 toothpaste from the dentist. Good luck

Dear Lili18,

About eighteen months ago, my Dermatologist notice that I was developing, a fair few, areas of dry skin. He Prescribed me 'Dermol 500 Lotion', which is "An antimicrobial emollient and moisturiser for the management of dry and pruritic (itchy) skin conditions, especially eczema and dermatitis, and for use as a soap substitute". In other words it is a, Less drying alternative, to soap. I now use this in the shower, every morning, in place of soap. I use a Standard shampoo, apparently without a problem.

I hope that the above maybe, of some help, to you Lili18.

Kindest wishes

Hello. Do you have skin issues and rashes due to your lupus? I have struggled on and off with these issues and I have a lupus rash at the nape of my neck that gets very angry, sore and weepy. Plus I get sores in my ears and nose, crusty ear lobes etc. I have tried various things. Holland and Barret do a lovely range of shampoos, conditioners, soaps and deordorants etc. I have also recently tried Lush - shamppo and conditioner bars - so no plastic packaging and their soaps are good too. I use clinique to wash my face and their moisturiser and I use make up products (only when I go our, so rarely) that I know work for me. Ultimately it is trial and error. Plus, unless my lupus is under control, I find I have skin issues no matter what. So if you are just starting medication it might take a while to see a difference in your skin issues. Are you sun sensitive? Only I have a few tips for that too, if you need them. Best wishes. Wendy x

Thank you so much, wendy. I dont live in the UK, so cant find holland and barret here. I think I will try clinique and lush. Ive just been diagnosed so I don’t know yet what exactly I will need to look for. Theres so many profucts put here and im scared to try something because it might make things worse. Still trying to come to terms with the diagnosis. I am sun sensitive too. currently trying to find a foundation with spf 50. Im very pale as it is, now also with spf 50. Would really appreciate your tips on this as well. Thanks again
