Hi everyone.

Earlier in the year I was found to be having osteoporosis (at 18 years old...). I used to be 159cm but went down to 156 then 152. Anyone has a similar experience? Is there any way to gain back the lost height? 😞

Sorry to hear you have osteo at such a young age, it is my family, they never got there height back...you need to get into a preventative mode, if you haven't already e.g. Weight bearing exercise, walking, etc. & calcium vitamin D.... There are osteoporosis healthunlocked called bone health that may give you more information... ML

Hi Ellejay46 I worked in the field of Osteoporosis for 15 years with top Specialists in Osteoporosis so Endocrinologists whose main interest and work involved seeing and treating patients with Osteoporosis, Rheumatologists and some Getiatricians who were involved mainly in Osteoporosis treatment and some of these doctors were also world known Researchers in Osteoporis. 18 years old is a very young age to get it although you obviously have a serious condition that requires the cortisone treatment. Many women on Australia are treated with a drug called Evista or Raloxifine and can only be given to females. This is an Eli Lilly product so you will be able to look it up as they have had some very good results with its use and it has a low and no dreadful side effects.

In later years P.T.H. Or parathyroid hormone was introduced into the market to reverse Osteoporosis. We all have this drug normally in our body and Drs were taught that Parathyroid Hormone could never be given continuously

As it will erode or break down new bone. It was then discovered by large trials when P.T.H. Is given in pulse doses, so daily with a small subcutaneous injection it helps to get rid of diseased bone and replaces it with brand new healthy bone which is amazing. They have quite a few years since this was used for severe osteoporosis and patients had to match a lot of criteria to qualify to be given this product as it would break the government’s bank literally if they could give it to all patients with

osteoporosis! It has since been passed to be given to patients with slow healing fractures

If you are interested in finding out more about this I will give you its name and if you are interested you may have to find a Specialist in Osteoporosis for the possibility of treating your Osteoporosis. It needs to be an expert Endocrinogist, Rheumatologist or Geratrician who is an expert in this as most Drs still don’t know much about it. It’s name is Forteo or Teriparatide so you could look it up & have a read. Your age may preclude you from seeing a Geriatrician who specialises in Osteoporosis.

Specialist Endocrinolists who specialise in Bone would be the largest lot of Specialists treating Osteoporosis and there are some expert Rheumatologistsvin this category also.

I used to teach patients how to look after this product and inject so they would all ring me when they had finished their course and I got to hear some remarkable stories of patients whose life has been turned around by PTH.

One story only was a man in his 80’s had not been able to play his beloved golf since his early 60’s and had been in a wheelchair for many years. After treatment he had no use for his wheelchair as he was walking properly again and even more exciting for him he can now play on a 9 hole golf course.

As far as I know you won’t get your height back, although the experts would now know when the drug works and you have brand new quality bone may have the effect of straightening out your spine as the bone is now normal and you may not have any kyphosis or leaning over appearance any more. You need to make sure if you see anyone about this that they must be Osteoporosis Experts specialising in Osteoporosis. I imagine if you were on this product you certainly would not lose any more height.

There are some drugs still available that over time will have a very negative effect on your body. The above 2 drugs are the only ones that I have 100% confidence in,

Good luck with your treatment and outcome. I would be interested to find out how you get on,

All the best
