Lupus Nephritis

Hi

Hoping for some advise...

I was diagnosed with SLE and Lupus Nephritis in Feb.

I've started on 60mg steroids and MMf straight away, last month I had Rituximab but my Nephrologist has said that early signs are it may not have put the Nephritis into remmission..

Can anyone tell me about their experience as I naively was hoping this would magically fix everything xxx

I have SLE with class 3 & 5 Lupus nephritis. For me its prednisolone and MMF (along with a small amount of blood pressure medication - (Candersartan cilexetil because I have protienuria. it keeps pressure off the fragile kidney capillaries) Not everybody has to take the BP meds. But ask you're nephrologists about it. ACE and ARBs. are the renal protective ones.

It takes time and rest for things to settle down with renal flares. With me - when the doses of medications I was on wasn't bringing renal remission it meant increasing the doses of pred and mico. As much as I bitterly objected - it worked. In time once remission is achieved they should be able to bring the doses down to a bearable level.

Always follow the advice of the Nephrologists when it comes to renal flares. They're the specialists that know best.

Please don't loose hope of remission. It does take a bit of time. In the meantime make sure you look after yourself, don't over do things and - easier said than done - but try not to worry. Kidneys are pretty brilliant at healing once the nasty stuff is over and done with.

Got Prednisone and Mycophenolate for my Lupus Nephritis. It worked perfectly well. And it's true, it's best to be seen by a Nephrologist, and even better if this one has some lupus experience.

I completely agree with Freckle1000, I've been logged as Lupus Nephritis 4 since 1998, came off Mycopheolate completely in 2015 and 5mg of pred.

Only last week have I gone back on a low dose of Mycopheolate and that was because I asked my Nephrology doc. if I could because I feel my Lupus flaring.
