I'm relatively new to having an ileostomy, it's not been a whole year yet. I'm finding that I am having to change my bag more often as the weather warms up as i'm getting small leaks almost daily. I wondered if it is weather related and my body is maybe warmer or sweatier or maybe the adhesive is melting. [not that it's been that hot here on the east coast of Scotland]

You should have a word with your support nurse...modern ileostomy bags should not be temperature reliant.
I am finding that something has changed too - but I think it is something to do with my bags themselves, am sure they have changed something in them? I use Hollister x
I have welland, I wish I could use the Hollister as they have the most flexible flanges but I find that in a box I have to throw away half of them because the opening Velcro won't stick and the wind [ I have a lot] isn't released quick enough. wish I could get all the manufacturers together and take the best bits from all the bags to make my perfect one
Yes indeed, that would be fab! xx
Hi Susannah
I’ve had my ileostomy for about 1.5 years and quite happy with everything. I have a fistula about 5mm away from stoma so flange sits directly on that. Initially had leaks with the welland bags. Didn’t like them as they are thick and fairly inflexible. Definately talk to your nurse. Your stoma will shrink especially after initial surgery so check gap isn’t too big. I like Coloplast sensura mio as flange is thin and flexible and sticks like glue. I have small parastomal hernia about size of a grapefruit so the convex flange and “petalled” flange is amazing. Used with a brava barrier ring I can’t remember last time I had a leak. Bags last 3-4 days with no problems. Also Coloplast bags are a cool grey linen look. I also use a comfizz support belt which helps keep everything in place. I realise you posted some months ago, sorry, only just seen this. Good luck. Hope you get it sorted. Us ostomates need to stick together x
hi, unfortunately welland are the only bag that will stick to me and don't irritate my skin. I'm wondering now if it could be the adhesive remover that is causing the bags to leak, maybe i'm not cleaning it all off so get leaky patches. I tried belts , rings and paste but none helped, I think also it's the angle of my stoma spout which points down so the clear sticky goo which come out of the stoma always runs under the flange. still it's better than before the stoma so I guess I have to hope for new products to come along.
