Brain Fog leading to an unnecessary operation on the cat!!

This is quite a long anecdote but I hope it will make you smile. (The cat is NOT happy!).

I'm having a flare up - first "known" FU and it has led to a speedy Lupus diagnosis, but I didn't know brain fog was a thing until this week so I thought I was going slowly mad.

We inherited a cat at the stables where I keep my horse. I found her on Facebook needing a new home and she helps to keep the mouse population under control. I had a message from the yard manager a couple of weeks ago to ask if she'd been spayed as she was looking suspiciously rotund. (I'd been laid low for several weeks and hardly visited the yard.) Having perked up, I went over to the stables and sought out Pippin. She was ready to pop! I was rather embarrassed. How could I have donated a cat to the yard and forgotten to get her spayed?

So, as penance, I took Pippin off to the vets to see how many kittens we needed to find homes for. I sat anxiously like the mother of a wayward daughter whilst awaiting the results of her scan. No kittens! Phew! She is just overweight. I immediately arranged for her to be spayed the following week.

I was up at the crack of dawn on Monday to take Pippin for her operation. The vet phoned to let me know how it had gone ..... there was no womb to be removed. She'd already been spayed before she came to us!

Why didn't I remember this? And as I didn't remember, why didn't I check with her previous owner. The unfunny side of this is that my brain didn't make any sensible links. It just said "you thought she was pregnant so she needs to be spayed".

I now have a cat who is furious as she is having to be confined for a week and a hole in my bank balance. On the upside, we are now all sure that the cat has been spayed and I'm not as daft as the lady who took a tom cat in to be spayed!

I hope you are all keeping warm. I have a mouthful of sores and stabbing joint pains today. It's blowing a blizzard so I'm tucked up in bed with the blanket on for a while before I move downstairs in front of the fire and TV 😁

Haha I’m guessing you’ll be giving Pippin a few yummy treats to cheer her up 😂

This did cheer me up though.

Sorry to hear about your mouth sores, I’m joining you on the joint pains. I also have aching/burning muscles.

Sounds like tv, fire and blanket is just what the doctor ordered though 😊 enjoy!!

I'm just replying to one of your posts, Lisa. I think we're in a similar place at the moment. We've so much snow today that I can't get up to the stables, so I don't have to face Pippin's evil stares! Right, I'll get back to my other message to you.

Glad you have your sense of humour intact anyway - you'll definitely need that :).

I completely get your brain fog thing. It drives me mad. I'm a freelance journalist and I now have to employ all sorts of electronic support to assist my slightly malfunctioning brain.

I've got to the point now (shows how far we come) that when I go to the supermarket and forget half of the essential items, or I forget one of my client's bit of work that's due, I just shrug (I give myself very long deadlines just in case). Awful!

I forgot my best friend's name today at a social event in our village. I was chatting to someone else and saying something about Cathy, but I just had to point at her whilst my brain was replaced by cotton wool!

Hang on a minute!! if the vet could see on the scan there were no kittens, could they see a womb too!!! Pippin definitely needs extra love and attention this week xx

Apparently a cat's womb is so tiny it can't really be seen on ultrasound. She'll be glad to be in the stable today. We've almost a foot of snow!

That is a great story and reminds us to see the funny side.

Just remember (if you can- it's usually the only thing I can) humor is our secret weapon. Give Pippin an extra rub behind the ears 😉

How's it going? I'm thinking about doing a walk/trot test on my girlie this weekend. I thought about it last weekend but couldn't even pick up the test paper to start learning it. We reached the amateur championships last year but now I can't memorise the simplest test (whinge!).
