Hi ....l have just been called back for more films after a mammogram I had last week. This was 16 years after I had a mastectomy of my right breast.

I am now 74 but still a bit scared. Has anyone here had surgery after Lupus ? I have MCTD on Mycophenolate and Hydroxychloroquine.

I am wondering it affects the surgery and post surgery at all ?

I am probably jumping the gun but you know how it is ! Any help gratefully received.

I am facing the same..I need my second stage surgery for my DIEP flap surgery that I did last March..I had bc 12 years ago and had blmastectomy with implants reconstruction...since they were awful, I had the DIEP procedue to do a revision...then I was dx's with Lupus, so I had to postpone my (tidying up and nipples consrutuction)surgery, I was to have in September . My rheumy wanted me to wait until after the holidays..my PS said he would fit me in as soon as possible AFTER I was off prednisone for 2 weeks...there was no mention of the Hydroxychloroquine, which I also take...so, I do not think the Hydroxycloraquine is a huge issue if any....frankley, I am more worried about my wound healing after surgery, I do not heal all that well, perhaps Because of Lupus??....I am sorry to hear you may be facing another bc..same side or other?? My best to you...and I understand how unsettling it is to get a call back...xx

Thank you Leslie. I am crossing my fingers and will hopefully know on Thursday. Waiting is the worst part. I am filling the time eating chocolate dark with hazelnuts...both good for you

Last time I had a Right mastectomy...other side now.

You seem to have had a torrid time recently. Have you finished now ?

I have not yet been scheduled for my surgery to fix my mess...My Dr says he will make everything right..hmmmmm Hope so

Really sorry you are having to face this & hope the op goes well. I am 72, had a knee replacement 5 years ago whilst on mtx, hydroxhchl & prednisolone and all was well. Felt great for ages afterwards with the pre-op boost of steroids in fact!!

Well after more X rays,ultrasound and several core biopsies the news isn't looking good. I have to wait till next Thursday for the result of the biopsies but I'm pretty sure it's cancer

Hi bones-bones ,

Some people with lupus may need to do a bit of extra preparation ahead of surgery;

If you have Raynaud's phenomenon or Sjogren's syndrome then the surgery team will need to be aware of this in advance so that they can deal with it during the surgery.

You will need to discuss your treatments prior to the surgery in case any need to be adjusted. Some blood-thinning 'aspirin-like' treatments may need to be stopped. Some immunosuppressant medications may also need to be stopped to reduce the risk of infection.

Many people with lupus may experience a longer recovery and healing time from surgery, so extra care may be needed.
