Just Want to Cry!

On Saturday I went to collect my meds from the pharmacy. It's not too far to walk so I took my dog. We walked in a different direction which was exciting because there were more sniffs and lamp posts to wee on (him, not me πŸ˜‚) and it was breezy, which caused much cavorting ( him, not me πŸ˜‚)

On the way back, with a heavy load of meds over my shoulder, the dog yanked me suddenly causing much elbow pain ( me, not him 😒) . Long story short, dislocated elbow. A&E fascinated by my extra mobile joints (😬). Glad to give them fun. Right arm in sling and I live alone (dog no help; where is Lassie when you need her)?

So why cry? Because I have an intense craving for caramelised red onion chutney and can't get the lid off. Tempted to stand at the gate and ask a strong looking passer by to help, but best not.

OK, no crying. You have to laugh x

Don't be silly! Get out to that gate!!!!!!!

Hmmm - could fancy an oatcake with salty butter, some nice cheese and that chutney! Unfortunately I am NOT going to be able to source the chutney here. I have one oatcake and the butter is definitely not salty. Cheese is all I have...

Look how you have made me suffer too ;-) xxxxxxxxx

Yeah definitely go out to the gate, you'll discover the goodness in people and maybe even start a new friendship......let us know what happens. 😊😊

Oh ouch 😒 Do you not have a kindly neighbour? You could offer them a spoon of the chutney if they take the lid off! Xx

I once shut the Sainsbury's delivery man in the dining room. I told him I would let him out when he'd caught the mouse. He caught it and put it outside !

I always bash a jar with a spoon......stops me cutting my fingers off.

You could be charged with kidnap you know?

Better not bash the jar too hard - broken glass is probably worse than a knife...

Meant to say bash the lid !

I hope it settles down soon , it must have been really sore when it happened. My friend gave me a small round nonslip mat that can grip the tops of jars with, if you had 2 you could put 1 on table and grip lid with other one . She got them in USA not sure where you get them here .

in reply to weathervane

I use rubber gloves, they work just as well!

Don't make me cry from laughter anymore πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I need sleep thank you all... By the way no need for jar opener, I tap it with a knife and then use my rubber washing gloves to get a grip, not sure one handed will do it...

I hope it's a quick recover for your sake & the dog's, you only have one good arm left to walk him/her best take it really slowly. 😊 ml

in reply to maggielee

Sorry, didn't see your reply when I said I use rubber gloves, blame it on sleep deprivation!

Put the jar between ur knees to hold it and twist the lid with ur free hand?!! I've had to resort to this before, or wait til the postman comes!

oh dear poor you! bang the jar lid with a knife from the side a few times. It opens pretty easy if you do that!

Thank you all for the tips on opening jars. I have the rubber grip things that usually work, but I didn't know the banging with the knife trick.

The Amazon hero brought a super light new hoover. I may even use it next year !

Great post. Made us all smile. Putting the lid under the hot water tap will make the lid expand and easier to turn. Best wishes Kevin

Glad I read to the end - I was going to add that!

And of course, if all else fails - pierce the lid to release the vacuum. But then you don't have a whole lid to cover the jar again. But if you finish the chutney it won't matter...
