Hi! I noticed that my symptomps are worse when I have my period. I have more hairloss, I have more headache, and I feel more tired. Anyone experience this too? Is this because of the hormone thing?

Are you in worse condition when you are having period? Because I am
Hello. I get this too. Lupus can definitely be triggered by hormones. In fact I think mine was set off by the birth of my third daughter in 2008 - although with hindsight now I think I'd had warning signs from an early age. I was diagnosed in 2013. I get worse with my monthly cycle. The week before I am wiped out! I'll be lethargic and need more sleep etc. It still catches me out. I'll think to myself, I hope I'm not coming down with a flare and then I'll come on and the realisation dawns that that was why I was so low. Once my period starts the lethargy and fatigue improve. I told the doctor this recently and he agreed, so I guess rheumies are aware of this. How do you cope with yours?
At first I thought this just a normal women response but I think it is not normal if I get more hairloss when I have my periode. My doctor didn't give response about it, and I don't mean to be rude but he seems confused about hormonal thing, because last week I tested DHEA and mine was low then he adviced me to go to hormone doctor. Not sure what to do. I hope I will get the result after I go to this doctor.
Still don't know how to cope with this because the headache is getting worse. Actually it is not the kind of headache that very painful but its disturbing a lot and making me feel tired all the time.
I can totally empathise with you regards the headaches. I have experienced every type I think at some point or another. Migraines. Headaches with myalgia. Ice pick headaches. Cluster migraine. Etc. My recent flare started with a tenderness and pains in my head and built up slowly over a period of 6 weeks. It was a new type of headache with me and the tenderness on my scalp was new. I suffered pains in my jaw and neck, again new to me. The whole thing was very scary. Please seek advice on any new symptoms, especially headaches.
As for hair loss, I do get quite a lot of hair loss anyway and had this recently with this flare. We have wooden floor boards in our bedroom so I can often see a blanket of hair on the floor, shining in the sun light form the window. I also notice bad hair loss by the way it blocks the drain in the shower at times. But I am not sure I have ever noticed it more so with my period. Just with flares/disease activity.
My periods are closer together and last longer when I am ill with my lupus, just to add to the misery. I seem to suffer more when I am ill. But now I am coming out of the flare, I am getting more time off in between.
Oh the joys of being a woman with lupus. There is always something to learn and despite being diagnosed in October 2013, I am still noticing trends and patterns re my lupus. I guess we'll never stop learning about lupus as it does seem to effect every aspect of your health and well-being. Plus the doctors are discovering new stuff all the time. Best wishes. Hope you have a good day today.
