Heart attacks and lupus?

Has anyone heard of a connection between lupus and someone having a heart attack? Could lupus have caused this?

I have also suffered from a heart attack just 2 weeks ago and now have a paracardio effusion that I have to live with from Lupus. It is scary. I now am trying harder to do everything right in the things I do. Hope you are well.

HI. Unfortunately I have suffered two heart attacks in the last six months and a heart bypass. I am in the process of dealing with rheumatologists and cardiac specialists to get the right ongoing treatment. 😡😡

I had myocarditis and that is inflammation which I suffer from intermittently with other parts of the body getting inflamed, so it is all part of the immune problem and if not treated correctly no doubt can affect the heart and other consequences.

hi there lm pat from England, right to answer your question yes lupus can cause heart attack as 2 years ago i had one and the consultant told me it was due to blood clotting this is what lupus does, i have systemic lupus hope this answers your question, good health to you.

Yes, possibly, **especially** people who have been told they have Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome (or the presence of Lupus anticoagulant antibodies). Patients with Lupus are at an increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in general, but patients with the syndrome and antibodies are at a much higher risk for heart attacks, stroke and PEs. Now, to be clear, not every person with Lupus has these antibodies nor is having Lupus going to give you cardiovascular disease or result in a heart attack. It's all about risk and other life factors.

That being said, most people with autoimmune diseases are at higher risk for cardiac events. My mom has RA and I have Lupus + Psoriatic Arthritis with Spondylitis. Both she and I get a lecture about heart health every time we go in for our checkups. In my case, I tested positive for the antibodies, so I take preventative steps to ensure proper circulation. In her case, cardio vascular disease is one of the leading causes of death related to RA but her heart and circulation are in great shape.

LSS: It's a possibility that can't be ruled out but you have to consider other factors as well unless the docs said that it was a complication of Lupus.
