I have a severe reaction to the sun and right now I am in a major flare so the reaction is much worse, just having the sun on me on a short journey gave be extreme facial rash with Neurological symptoms off the scale.

Is there anything you can fit like a film to the car windows that gives UV Protection?

Yes there is. I was reading about it last night. If you go on the Lupus UK website there is a link to eclipse which is a charity for photosensitive people. I really struggle with photosensitvity too, hence I was looking.

Eclipse recommend a product called dermaguard which can be fitted to your car windows and home windows. That's as much as I know but I'm sure others with give you good advice.

Yes! I have it in my car and I've put it in my south facing window. Just do a Google for UV film and you can compare pricing.

I have had all the rear windows in my car virtually blacked-out and the front windows and windscreen tinted as much as the law allows. A local garage did this for me and its definitely worth it.

I, like Kate, Have all blacked out side and rear windows + UV protected screens all round. I had an open topped car before being diagnosed so had to change my car. The garage did all the organising of window protection so I've no idea who makes it or where it comes from. Good luck.

I think dermaguard is the main one approved for car windows - I need to get mine done but as I'm on a pcp plan on my car I don't know if I can add it on. Back windows are all tinted though and I can't go out when it's really strong anyway.

I used to have uv filters on my house windows as well - there's a lot of companies that will do that so I'd say google some and then ring them to check the coverage is enough as should be able to do one with 98% uv blockage which is clear when put on the windows. Most companies offer to sell you just the film but I'd suggest paying the extra to get it fitted - it's a bit like mobile phone screens that are a bit of a knack on how to fit them and the guy that did mine was here for a while fitting them properly.

I have since discovered I'm photosensitive to all visible light so have to have something called Amber 81 from Madico fitted on all the house windows to cut out a large part of the range which helps but does turn everything orange and my house looks a bit like a lucosade bottle. I don't think that one is allowed on cars unfortunately and the only place that has it is The Window Film Company. The specialist photosensitivity clinic at Guys put me on to them and their website is at windowfilm.co.uk/?gclid=CPW.... They were really helpful when I dealt with them.

Good luck :)
