CT pulmonary Angiogram Tomorrow

Has anybody had this done before?

I'm a bit nervous as I've never had a dye injection before and not sure what to expect.

Having the scan as Rhuemy suspects narrowing or clotting in my arteries, does anyone know how long it will take for results either?

Thank you x

Hi Hnewman2 . Please do not worry about the CTPA. It's a very straightforward procedure. Basically, they will settle you on the bed and explain to you that the bed will move you in and out of the scanner and they will send some dye through the needle/cannula in your hand. They will explain that you will get a sensation of urgently needing a wee and/or wetting yourself but it's over in a blink and I certainly emerged as dry as I was before! Mine was done as an emergency inpatient to rule out Pulmonary Embolism (severe chest pain) so the scan results were almost immediate. There's absolutely nothing to worry about it.

Wishing you all the very best. Clare xx

Thank you Clare the advice is much appreciated! If you don't mind me asking did you have PE? I'm having chest pain everyday and I think that's one of the things they are checking for, jus wondering what it could be if not that! Thank you x

No PE for me. I had an area of consolidation and was discharged asap with antibiotics. 6 years later, the bouts of pain continue and the patches on my lungs are still there. It seems to be inflammation of my small airways &/or pleuritic pain caused by the lupus. My bouts of pain literally leave me bent double - really horrid. I'm glad they're checking you out thoroughly xx
