Saw my rheumatologist and I love her!!!!

Ok, so I saw my rheumatologist and she is so nice. She looked at my labs and said that had she been the one to run the labs she would have diagnosed me off my symptoms and labs, but she wanted to run her own of the same ones and then some. I totally understand. So I got my blood drawn and go back November 2nd to find out my final diagnosis. In the meantime for the next two weeks she put me on a low dose of prednisone to help with all the inflamation I have. My ESR rate is currently as of my last labs at a 65. Highest it should be is 20. I'm scared. I truly am. At first I just said yes atleast I will know what is wrong with me and they can treat it, but after looking at other sites I am petrified to say the least. I'm so scared I am going to die.

As scary as it is, at least you will finally get the attention you need and hopefully the right medication to keep further damage at bay. So happy that you found a good doc!

It’s good that you have a good relationship with your consultant and that you have another appointment soon to talk about your diagnosis and your treatment, which should help put your mind at rest.

Although there is at present no cure for lupus, careful monitoring of the disease and a treatment programme with medication adjusted as appropriate enables the condition to be controlled. This means most patients are able to live a normal life span. Whilst some people are severely afflicted by lupus, many others can live virtually normal lives with some adaptations.

According to the Lupus Encyclopedia, the Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) is a test doctors most commonly use to check for inflammation. Most people who have active SLE have an elevated ESR.

Also don't forget the esr can fluctuate. It is high when lupus is active, but will drop when it calms down. So don't panic too much because it is high now. You're consultant will work with you to get this under control.
