Credit where it is due

I just saw my respirology consultant for a review.

I was feeling lousy; barely able to walk unaided from the hospital car park to out patients.

The nursing assistant calling patients in noticed this. She sat me down and pushed me into the waiting area in a chair, and then brought me a glass of water and some wine gums! She even offered to push me back to my car.

In the review meeting my consultant was so helpful. He explained everything clearly and took time to make sure I understood what was going on. I left feeling cheered and cared for.

There's lots of things wrong with the NHS, but this morning, it was completely brilliant.

There are lots of good things about the nhs, but we tend to hear about the bad.

You just made my day. Literally, I was crying and your words dried them up. I needed that. I have read about the Ark many times, but that just blew me away. Thank you for your inspiration. Thank God for the example. Best wishes to you and I hope you are doing well.

What is wine gum? What WAS wrong?

Hello Mean-time, Wine gums are sweets (candies). My favourites, as it happens! What was wrong was that I was suffering a reaction to starting mycophenolate. My consultant told me to stop taking it straight away, which was a relief.

Great to learn of your wonderful NHS experience. When it works it's a wonderful feeling.

I find most things about my new hospital very positive. For example the neurologist showed an elderly gentleman how to wheel his wife's hospital wheelchair along by pulling rather than pushing - after he nearly collided with my legs!

Interesting re your experience of Mycophenolate. It took 3 attempts st Azathioprine last year for doctors to acknowledge that I was having a severe reaction to it. Hope your breathing settles down again quickly. X

I was also delighted to hear my lung consultant say that the scan showed some reduction in inflammation, so that he didn't feel it was necessary to add a further DMARD at this stage. However, my other symptoms - eg fatigue and heart - are not so great, so my rheumy might decide otherwise next week. I may yet need your advice on azathioprine soon! x

Hey don't go by me please - I only have to look at a medication and end up with the very worst side effects or allergies listed!! Aza works for many I know and probably would have done wonders for me too if my pancreas hadn't rejected it big time 🙄👹🙃

Thank you for info! I stopped taking it on the 11th of this month after three months of flu symptoms...still feeling effects, but they are lessening, sleeping better also. 👍

Great post! We seem only to hear about bad experiences but it's a refreshing change to hear something positive and frankly pretty well reflects my own experiences with the NHS. Well done you for this! You've really cheered me up.
