She should get a hep B vaccine. I read up on google about lupus and vaccine B. There are effective hep B vaccines with dead viruses. It has to be dead because of her immune system.

I thought hepatitis b can only be contracted through blood? You should see your doctor and speak to him.

Hi. If she has been exposed, she needs an immunoglobulin shot immediately. Ask for an emergency appointment with your GP tomorrow.

Sorry to be so firm, but Google won't help. Hep B is a virus and cannot be cured. Her body will either fight it, or not... Every person with Lupus is different, and although it is a possibility, there is absolutely no way of knowing for certain whether the infection will result in a flare and make her symptoms worse. So, please just go ahead and get treatment. At least, that way, she won't become a carrier if her body can't fight it.

Hope things work out okay.

Hello Bobbyrivard ,

Do you have chronic hepatitis B (had it for more than six months)? The vast majority of people infected with hepatitis B in adulthood are able to fight off the virus and fully recover within one to three months. Most will then be immune to the infection for life. If this is the case, then practicing safe sex until the virus is cleared should prevent spreading the virus. You can learn more about hepatitis B at nhs.uk/Conditions/Hepatitis...

As others members have mentioned, the safest course for your partner is likely to be a hepatitis B vaccination. This is an inactive vaccine, so it is not possible for her to catch the disease from it despite her (possibly) suppressed immune system.

nhs.uk/Conditions/vaccinati...

'The Lupus Encyclopedia' by Donald E Thomas Jr, states;

"...People who have SLE should also receive other vaccines under certain circumstances. People who have SLE who have a household member who has chronic hepatitis B infection should get a hepatitis B vaccine."
