Hi, just wondering if anyone had experience of laser eye surgery. I have Systemic lupus and have eye gel for dry eyes twice a day. If anyone has had it done please let me know your experiences and where you went for the surgery.
THankyou

Hi Imogen, yes I had this done 10 years ago and had no problems at all! I have Lupus, sjogrens, raynauds, asthma and MCTD. I had it done at a private clinic in Belfast and the Dr went over everything with my Rheumatologist first. I was extra careful about avoiding infection and they reviewed me often, it really made such a wonderful difference to my life as I was extremely short sighted. 😊 Bronagh
I have Lupus and had Lasik a few years ago, it went perfect, no problems at all. Probably one of the best decisions I've ever made
Hi Imogen, I had Wavefront Lasik done 14 years ago, I was very myopic.
Admittedly, this was before my uctd diagnosis & I had always had dry eyes & raynauds.
The surgery didn't make the dryness worse, I use eye-drops every day.
The difference in my eyesight has been truly amazing & I speak as someone who wouldn't have been able to recognize herself in the mirror without contacts!
One eye was made slightly long-sighted & the other slightly short-sighted as they said this would prevent my needing reading glasses - I'm 54 now & still don't need them.
My short-sighted eye has deteriorated slightly but I still have better vision than ever before.
I don't have halos at night whilst driving & can honestly say that it's been one of the best decisions I ever made.
I did research several companies beforehand, finally deciding on Accuvision in London, I believe they have clinics in Leeds & Birmingham now. They weren't the cheapest but they were fab!
Hope you decide to go ahead if this is the right choice for you. xx
Hello ladies, thank you for posting this question Imogen, I am also considering this. I wore contact lenses for 25 years but was unable continue to wear them due to dry eyes. Apparently nowadays the contact lenses are made for people with this issue so I may go down that route again. I am waiting to be seen at the eye department of my local hospital as my pressures are high I will see what the outcome is and decide. It's nice to read some positive results and experiences because you never can trust the website reviews these days after some newspapers had written to say that people can get paid for positive reviews on sites and yet not experience the procedure.
Good post.
Take care all, Nicola x🤓
