Methotrexate

I have been on methotrexate for 3 years started get awful side effects and loss of effectiveness saw the Rheumy last week and asked me to be brave come off it so we could see what are side effects and what is my disease symptoms. He will see me in a month. Has anyone done this and how was it coming of the drug?

Hi witch2, I haven't come off methotrexate but can totally sympathise. I too am in a similar position having been on methotrexate for about two and a half years. I have got to the point when I don't know if the symptoms I am getting are lupus or side effects of methotrexate or a mixture of both. I feel I should try coming off it for a while to see what happens. What symptoms are you getting? Did the Rheumy give you any idea of how long to come off it for? I am going to talk about it at my next appointment. Hope it goes well for you when you come off it.

Hi thanks for asking I am initially off for a month go back to see Rhuemy in 4 wks so far brilliant my head feels so much clearer and so much pain and aches have gone. The awful sick feeling has gone too. I am now back to aches in feet and hands and specific connective tissues disease good opportunity to realise what is drug and what is disease.
