Mouth ulcers!!

Does anyone have any advice on how to treat Mouth ulcers?😲 Tried difflam, bonjela and toothpaste! Had steroid injection 3 weeks ago but they keep appearing and disappearing on a daill based. On hydroxy and meloxicam.

Oooh aren't they the very devil. Misery making!

The only thing I use with success is iglu. If you dab dry the sore area first, I have found iglu sticks better. If I do it at bedtime often the areas are much improved, if not gone.

Hi there my daughters Consultant has recommended a steroid inhaler to spray directly onto the ulcer as soon as it starts and it is worming. Good luck with the blighters.

Ambersol liquid form. Dab on with cotton bud. Stings but very effective. Feel sorry for you. They're the most irritating thing to have.

Don't eat any spicy, hot or sour foods, no coffee, soda, sugar,& alcohol. Remember to brush and wash your mouth after any meal, put ice scoop then Avira few times a day during this time. Good luck.

Try using a good vitamin B supplement. Quite often deficiency in this vitamin can cause mouth ulcers and, within a few days of taking vit B I find they just disappear!

Hi there. Ive been suffering with these for a long time now and I agree with Whatnext. I rinse out my mouth three times a week with cooled boiled water and salt. It not only soothes the pain but really does help. Also It helps keep them at bay.

Hi chandlermandy. Oh I totally sympathise as they are just the most annoyingly painful things!I I used to get lots of them and just couldn't shift them. Then I read that having a dry mouth can trigger mouth ulcers. So I tried products from the Biotene range and it really worked wonders. I swapped to the toothpaste and mouthwash for a few months and it made a huge difference. The ulcesr cleared up and rarely appear now.... Definitely worth a try. Good luck!

I agree they're so painful, stop me eating and playing my saxophone!! I used to use Rinstead pastilles but you can't get them now, so I use Superdrugs version and as I'm reading in bed last thing I put one in to slowly dissolve

I've tried everything over the decades. For me the only OTC that more than sort of helps are gengigel mouth was & also the gel...these help most when used the minute you feel an ulcer or lesion starting up. THE VVV BEST prescription topical is adcortyl in orabase, made of the strong steroid triamcinolone. Sadly for some crazy reason this is no longer available in the UK...so I get a prescription from my go & get it abroad (sometimes I'm given a similar topical with kenalog instread of triamcinolone). The thing about the steroid inhalers is that they expose relatively more of the soft mouth tissues, and thrush can be a side effect.

Hi, a rather odd cure was suggested to m some time ago. It is to eat salt and vinegar crisps, yes it does hurt at the time but peculiarly worked for me .. Maybe worth a try before you have a go with the steroid creams etc. which are very powerful and I would think that after getting used to them simple methods might not do the trick .. I periodically get mouth ulcers. I also find that there are times I have a taste for the salt and vinegar chips. I will have to see if there is a correlation.

foxglove, I placed the information above but I will repeat it. I did not find a link but I looked on the Johns Hopkins website and found that people find putting salt on a cold sore as it begins heals it. The cold sore never gets really sore and open. I had one yesterday and ate chips with salt and pepper on them. I put salsa on the chips. Today, I can barely feel where there was a beginning of a cold sore. Strange or not. I don't argue with success.

I've found increasing my Vit c intake helped with these. As a supplement rather than eating citrus directly for obvious reasons! I don't get them any more as I keep up on the Vit C with fruits and veggies so maybe try that for long term.

Does anyone else get sore white spots on tongue? Like a ulcer or a swollen taste bud. Keep having them on and off since I've had lupus

Hi there, Yes I get them too and they are very very painful! Mine looks like a gigantic swollen tastebud that's got infected, totally white. I also get very sore circular patches (think It's geographical tongue) all over my tongue at similar time to the tongue pimple. I have never found anything to aids these sorewhite tasted buds but I was recommended to put a clove on the pimple, works for some so you could try this.

Try sodium lauryl sulphate (sls) free toothpaste such as sensodyne pro enamel. There are lots out there. Seems to work for me.

Hi there

I've been suffering extremely painful mouth ulcers all my life. Mine r hereditary and also linked to my conditions and are nothing to do with mouth hygeine like most of us, they will crop up even if we use Corsodyl all the time (which is actually pretty useful when your suffering mouth pain.

I have something that is brilliant and helps the mouth ulcers heal very quickly 2-3 days instead of what used to be 3 wks. I use something called Orabase and you can buy it from a pharmacy. They used it for things like sealing stomas etc. I got the idea from when there used to be a product on the market called 'Adcortyl in Orabase'. The best think to do is; Clean teeth an then use Corsodyl 30 mins after brushing, then take a small ball of the orabase and push it in and over the ulcers. The saliva will seal the orabase and the ulcers will heal fast underneath. It really does work. The biggest benefit is overnight because you won't be eating, drinking or talking so the orabase stays on for longer.

I have a suggestion that you might find strange but I swear it works. I have suggested it to many through the years and it has never failed. Came from my grandmother....take a can of sauerkraut, any kind at all, and drain it into a container, keeping the juice. Rinse your mouth with the juice. That's all, works like a charm.

Honest, do this several times a day and they will be gone over night or for sure in two or three days. Good luck!

Sorry, I know how painful they can be and if you don't catch them when they're developing it's almost impossible to get rid of them. I "finally" found out in adulthood after suffering for years, that lysine is what works best for me and a dentist told me about it. It's a natural substance you can buy in any health food store and you can experiment by taking 1-3,000 mgs at the onset of a breakout. I then continue that dose at least 2-3 times a day until I know it's subsiding then I take a small dose daily (maybe 1,000 mg) until they're gone. Good luck and I hope you find a way to control them.

I suffer frequent mouth ulcers & tried everything OTC & prescription but the best thing I've found which works for me is a red light therapy wand for mouth ulcers which I bought at Lloyds Pharmacy for about £10 - works a treat,mouth ulcers disappear overnight & no side effects!

I had a terrible time with mouth ulcers until my doc prescribed Triamcinolone Acetonide Dental Paste USP, 0.1%. I only used it at night. It's very gritty, but I just put it on and go to bed. in the morning, it's almost gone. I think I've only had to reuse it on a sore twice.

Chandlermandy, I can't say that I found a link on line but I went into the John's Hopkins website and looked a salt, vinegar and mouth sores. I saw salt more often than vinegar. The general consensus was to put salt on one just as it starts, keeps it from coming full blown and sore. I had one coming and found I had a taste for salt. I ate some salt, pepper chips with salsa on them. A day later, it is better rather than worse. I will try it again.
