Hi Juliamarie

You can send in new information regarding a claim for benefit but you don't have long as his assessment is soon!. My advice would be to contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau who will be able to tell you what to do. Good luck, I hope your husband is successful, keep us postedX

Hi I have myself been through similar process with Phoenix Life.

UCTD with interstitial lung disease.

All access to GP and consultants given...proof of self employed earnings 3 yrs..

Claim approved after 6 month deferred period.

My own condition now classified as SLE Lupus...many previous conditions leading to Guys Hospital Dr Cruz eventual diagnosis.

Therefore send and keep sending all updates to Capita my advice.

Happy to speak if useful...very challenging life for men with these conditions.

Best regards

Yes contact Capita and let them know also send copies letters from consultants with diagnosis. I found information was not always shared between departments, so make a note of when you told them and posted info and also take all this with you to the assessment.

I attended my own PIP Assessment last week and they went through all of the info and asked if there was anything I wanted to add, so you will have the opportunity to discuss it on the third. Also can I recommend that you go with him. It's much easier if you are not on your own. :)

Call them up and update them of news circumstances.. Always take along your own copies or letters from hospital and specialist..

You will be able to take written information with you to the face to face that's what my husband did. So don't worry to much.

I had my GP and my Rheumy NP type a letter for me to send off to support my application. In it they described the issues, progressiveness, difficulties and the unlikeliness that anything would change for the better. This helped without doubt but I would still say that on the day of the assessment you still have to meet the points criteria in each section. Good luck.

I would send every single bit of medical evidence you can get your hands on. I recently filled a PIP application in for my son, well to be more accurate I took it to CAB after taking advice from 4UP. They advised to send everything which I did including an up to date medical certificate. He received a phone call from the decision maker and had his assessment over the phone. I then phoned up for a progress report and was told he had been granted it and that the medical evidence which were 1 letter from his psychiatrist and 1 from his psychologist were the reason he was given PIP. The medical evidence is key to it all. Good luck.

I would phone them, and when he goes on the 3rd go with him, and take original and copies of everything!! Good luck x

I bought my suitcase of medication (ok small travel toilet bag). I didn't think the assessment went well, however I showed her the extra meds that was not on the original form. I also followed up the meeting with letters from doctors, hospitals, prescriptions etc.

Having waited a year to the month for my assessment, I was eventually successful.

Good luck x

You can send in further info or you can tell them at the assessment. PIP goes on someone having had the condition for 3 months and likely to have it for a further 9 months so you will need to ensure that they understand your husband has been having the difficulties for that length of time just you have only just been given a name for it.
