Hi I am sure this is the max dose. It does take 2-3 months to work properly though. When did you start?

Unfortunately I think that is the maximum dose. I am on the same. Some symptoms cleared up within a month, others took a year. How long have you been on it? And when were you diagnosed?

I think this is the maximum dose. I was on 400 for a couple of years and it was reduced to 200 when I lost quite a bit of weight. Didn't manage to keep the weight off and the rheumy has increased it to 400 again. When I was first put on hydroxy I was told to take it in two separate doses. It took a few months to have any noticeable effect.

400 is maximum dose. It goes on body weight so if you're petite you can only take 200 a day.

It took 6 months for me to notice the full benefits of it and I'm only taking the 200mg, but my joint pain and fatigue is so much better now.

Try and hang in there and hopefully you'll feel some improvements soon.

Take care xxx

MaidMarion you may need another drug to work along side the Hydroxy, I take Azathioprine as well as alternating 200 / 400mg Hydroxy.

Actually it's not the maximum dose. I was on 400 mg prescribed by my primary care doctor. My rheumatologist actually said I was being under dosed and could go up to 600mg but said for me to start taking 500mg per day and see if it helped and if not we could go as high as 600mg. I had been at 400mg for a few months prior, and I can definetly say that once I went up to 500 I saw some improvement. I had been taking 15 - 20 mg of predinisone every day for the past 8 months because if I tried to get only lower then 15 I would flair up terribly. Been in a constant flair state for the past year or so. Anyways since increasing to 500mg on my plaquenil I have been able to gradually reduce my predinisone and am down to 10mg per day getting ready to try 7.5mg next week. Hoping to continue and get of steroids for a while.

Oh and as far as weight goes I know you do have to be a certain weight but I'm not a very big person and still allowed to take 500mg. I used to be lighter but have gained due to steroids. I weigh about 165 pounds now, and my rheumy said I can go up to 600mg if need be. I hope that helps and good luck. :)
