Hi poodlegal

I have both lupus and hypermobility syndrome and one of my symptoms is numbness and pain in my jaw. So a few years ago I tried acupuncture to see if this could alleviate the pain a little. And so to answer your question I believe it's perfectly safe -and weirdly relaxing! I had a total of eight sessions however I really can't say it worked for me as my symptoms didn't subside even after prolonged treatment.

Regardless to this however I would definitely say go for it! Just because it didn't work for me doesn't mean it won't for you :) I'm sure it depends what specifically you're looking for help with and perhaps some people respond better than others.

So good luck and I hope it helps!

I found acupuncture uncomfortable, but it could well have helped to solve a pain in my left shoulder/arm/wrist.

I do find natural healing or spiritual healing helps me and also kinesiology.

Absolutely. I swear by it. No side effects. You've got to find a good one though, that's the key. Mine is a miracle- worker. She also is open to taking into the whole picture what Western medicine is telling me abt things like blood work, CT scans etc. It should be complementary in that way. I can't say the same for some close- minded docs I've been to, who are afraid to give out pain meds b.c. they r worried people will get addicted, yet scoff @ something w/ none of those side effects, that really work. The accs all use disposable needles now. Just remember, if you go in very, very sick, it may feel for a day or so that u feel worse rather than better. I was told it's the blockages clearing. My acc did a rotation in her training at a vet clinic in Germany. When my doc rolled his eyes @ my going to an acc, I told him that. And said, "There's no power of suggestion when you're dealing with a daschund." That shut him up, but it's true. It's not a placebo. I'm in the states, but I'm sure there's a registry in the UK. Too bad our cruddy US health doesn't cover it.

Hi I have had accupuncture but as I do have quite complex health issues as well as lupus I was asked to sign a disclaimer to say that I take full responsibility for anything that may go wrong after any session. I am so glad that I tried it as on occasions it has been the difference between being able to walk and not being able to walk, if you ask me I would say go for it.

Good luck

Hi Poodlegal, I went for acupuncture quite a few years ago just before I was diagnosed with Lupus. I had awful pain and swelling in my ankles, knees and wrists which made walking, working and even getting washed & dressed really difficult.. My GP and hospital doctors tried anything and everything to help, but nothing worked. That's when I turned to acupuncture.

I only had to see the practitioner 3 times - he told me he would be able to help the pain in my joints, but not the underlying disease, i.e my Lupus. I went three times, and after a few days the pain started to go and has not returned since. It was truly amazing and like Maresy has said, the practitioner was a miracle worker. Although I would recommend it, especially for joint pain, you should always speak to your GP/hospital doctor before going ahead.

Hi poodlegal

Just finished a four week course of acupuncture for pain from the pain clinic, but overall I haven't seen any change. Initially it left me feeling nauseous and dizzy, but the needles in my head were omitted the following treatment. I found that the pain seemed to lessen for the hour after, then come back twice as bad. That is not to say that it will not benefit you, I'm willing to try anything for relief!!!!

Take care

Hi poodlegal. I have SLE and been having acupuncture on and off for nearly 4 years now. Personally I find it helps ease my knee pain and muscle aches.
