Middle back pain

I wake up with this pain most mornings. I don't know if it's arthritis, my stupid mattress that's sinking in (foam) or some internal organ problem I should be worried about. Anyone else have this.

Hi Natura,

Yes I have had this for years. We even bought a new bed with the memory foam mattress but I still have it. These days its a lot worse. Some nights I have to move slightly until I have worked through my back enough to move. I have just spent 3 nights in our caravan, wow do I appreciate this mattress tonight!

I understand the worry about the organs as I've worried re that before but for me i do think its the tissues between the ribs.

I know your not in to meds so some times heat helps but mainly i try cooling down. In fact the coolness of pillows was lovely last night as I used them to change sleeping position, sitting up a bit with them against my back.

When it happens at work it's generally when my temp is up and eases when I cool off.

Painkillers vary in their effect. X

whathappened...I too do that with my old pregnancy pillow that is the length of the body. I found it again , and love it. I flip it over to the cool spot. I do move around to get my back to feel better. I think you are right that its the tissues. I was out raking that day, a little, and for some reason the back muscles tighten up like a rock when I exercise them like that. Has been going on like that for awhile. I just forgot why they were tightening up, and realized today I had no back pain in the morning that must have been what happened. Thanks.

I have also experienced this over the years. I did find a solution for myself, but it has come at a high cost. My solution is to sleep on the couch, where I have the back of the couch to support my back. It is wonderful, in that it has pretty much eliminated that "wake up pain", but my husband is taking it personally. He says that I don't want to be cuddly with him anymore, I don't love him anymore, I am not "attracted" to him in "that way" anymore, etc. It goes on and on. Considering that he also suffers from back problems, much worse than mine, one would think he would be more understanding, but he isn't. So, as I said, it DOES come with great sacrifice, but ultimately I have to do what is best for MY body. Hubby is/will continue to come around.

Sue....I totally hear what you are saying about your husband getting upset. Mine is too. I put the body pillow in front of me and then he feels I am blocking him. Sometimes I sleep in the other bedroom with a harder mattress to help me sleep...and he feels I don't want to be around him. I wish I could convey that I am just having a terrible time sleeping. It has nothing to do with him. It is also hard to cuddle when I get that 1000 degree hot flash. I can cuddle for a minute and then I get too hot. Awful....What can you do? Like you said, you have to take care of yourself. I will try to snuggle tonight since my back pain seems better...I just wonder why it locks up so tight when I exercise differently, like raking. Hmm....
