Unhappy with my gastroenterologist attitude.

Hi all, just want to discuss my appointment I had with the Gastro consultant I had last week. This consultant was very rude, and I hope this doesn't sound offensive, but his English was very poor. I went in with my partner and we tried to explain that my life quality was very poor and especially for a man at the age of 23. I'll cut to the chase and make it clear, whilst we were discussing my stomach problems, I told him that I was diagnosed with Lupus this year, and he was quick as anything to dismiss it and then said I don't have it. I was so mad and I thought to myself, 'You're not even a immunologist, how can you say that?!' So my question is do you think he is in the right to say I don't have Lupus or do you think he is wrong?

Thanks!

Sorry to hear this happened to you. In answer to you, I think he was wrong to opiniate on another Drs diagnosis. Unfortunately this will happen again and again, unless you are lucky. Drs should battle it out in private and not make the patient feel awkward. I have had many a consultation where instead of dealing with my issues, it becomes a war of words about my diagnosis. Of course my regular Dr is good, it's when you randomly get put with another. Am just trying to get back on track from last year where a Dr stopped all my meds. I now have lupus in my lungs, liver, and it has attacked my blood. I have written to this Dr but, surprisingly no reply yet !!!

Did he identify what was wrong with your tummy? Maybe he meant that whatever is wrong with it, isn't caused by the lupus. That's the trouble with not having good command of a language, much confusion!

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. I've been diagnosed with Gastritis, esophagitis, Peptic ulcer disease and IBS and I was diagnosed this before I met this consultant.

Hi Eatpower

I think you need a different Gastro Consultant. He should not have cast doubt on your Lupus diagnosis, he's not in a position too. Did he query his colleagues diagnoses of all your stomach problems?. I'm sorry your so badly affected, a lot of your problems are caused by Lupus. Take Care.

This is ludicrous. There could be a direct correlation between the lupus and the tummy problems. Ask you doc to refer you to a different consultant.

I did, I have coeliac..and my original consultant "decided to wait 3 months and give me fybogel?" And when I mentioned lupus and other autoimmune diseases, he looked at me and just shrugged his shoulders..." Not my area, I know nothing about them!" Fuming, I spoke to my GP who referred me to another specialist..he's diagnosed barratts esphogas and small tears in my stomach...he was so thorough about other related illnesses. I had gastroscopy and meds all within about a month!
