Was retired nearly 18 years ago 2 years after I was diagnosed with lupus. So can't work and now government are saying I can. CAB benefits lady more or less just told me to live on my wifes wages. lost my tribunal appeal, so as far as there concurned get on with it. just feel helpless and tired of fighting. x

you are entitled to benefits, the best thing to do is go online and use the benefits checker, you are also entitled to disability benefits if it affects you so that you are unable to work...the sad thing is as they cannot see the pain we feel with lupus you do have to fight! This is something I am fighting myself right now, good luck x

I think the problem with diagnosis of a medical condition is not straightforward to claim benefits. Everyone is effected differently by there illness. Some of us are still working full/part time, while others can't manage to care for themselves. This doesn't just apply to lupus. Your GP/ consultant should help you with this as they are the ones who are dealing with your health and will have all your details. It is your right to request your medical details and then go to one of the organisations that are experts to help fill in benefit forms. I might be getting cynical in my old age but have found if you don't fight for yourself no one will! I hope all goes well for those needing help with benefits.

Obtain an Occupational Therapy Report either via NHS if your consultant will refer you or commission one privately. Gee, I'm beginning to sound like a broken record today! DWP find it impossible to argue with them.

I'm so terribly sorry! I had to apply for disability (in the U.S. )as a widow shortly after my husband died of cancer. The first time they turned me down despite my muscular dystrophy, SLE, chronic fractures, and breathing problems requiring oxygen. After they turned me down, I hired someone to help me organise every form of proof possible ( with several doctor letters) into a large folding file and appealed. After a year, they gave me modest disability--though I know they can suddenlyl take it back and put me through the meat-grinder all over again. Do.you have a way to appeal??
