I have had the headache from hell 4 days after the Lumbar Puncture. I have been resting for 4 days and this morning got a slight reprieve. I put some washing in then not long after felt dizzy and had to go back to reclining! I have tried plenty of fluids, caffeine and now getting completely fed up with it! Any ideas anyone????

Hi farmerfester thanks for your support. It is great to have everyone on this site looking out for each other when we need some advice. There is some improvement I am happy to say today but still laying flat.I think if the docs had told me it could take up to 2 weeks it might have helped!

Of course us loopies always take longer to heal than anyone else I forgot that!!

Hope you a feeling ok at the moment.

Best wishes Karen

When i got the LP headache it was the worst thing I have ever experienced I literally crawled into GP's surgery 5 days later to be told that there is nothing to be done but rest until the fluid level inside the brain leveled on it's own, I was layed flat on my back for 2 weeks and after that had to take it very slowly the only thing that did help was massive amounts of caffeine not just an extra cup of coffee but the stand the spoon up type every hour. I am afraid it is all down to time not forgetting we are already more inclined to be ill after some of these tests so recovery takes longer.

Hi tracynoe, thanks for your reply .It is great to have so much support on this site when you need it. It would have helped if the docs had said it could take up to two weeks! I am laying flat as I have no choice at the moment. Did try to fight it yesterday but went dizzy. So I am being a good girl today and listening to my body! I am learning, but I don't find it easy giving in!!Just had a strong coffee which I detest, but anything is worth a try

Hope you are feeling ok at the moment and trying to enjoy the summer.!

Of course you are completely right about everything taking longer for us loopies!!!Forgot that!!!

Best wishes

Took me about 7 days to truly begin to get over the headache. My consultants advice was loads of bottles of coke. You will get there. Hope you feel better soon xx

My headache after a lumbar puncture took nearly two weeks to clear. Plenty of rest, plenty of water was the only advice I got. Weak as a kitten for a couple of weeks too!

Hi Janpiercy thanks for your reply .It is really great to have so ,much support and advice when you need it!I It's comforting to know that lots of people have suffered the headache from hell for lengthy periods.

am resting as I have no choice. Today it does seem a little better so I just have to be patient!

Hope you have recovered and are feeling ok at the moment.

If the docs told you it might last 2 weeks that might help!

Hi there. Like everyone else my post LP headache lasted quite a while. About ten days. There is very little you can do apart from rest and keep very well hydrated. Until the cerebro-spinal fluid replaces itself every time you are vertical what is left drains from around the brain and the headache starts. If you can spend time laying down it might help.

Good luck and spoons aplenty.

Hey thank you for the kind advice. It's comforting to know that lots have people have experienced the same for a lengthy period. I am resting as I have no choice but to lay down!!! It's funny how your body knows isn't it. I have learned to listen to my body a lot more lately although I am finding it very frustrating as I was a very active person. It is great to have so much support on hand. I hope you are keeping well and have recovered well.

Best wishes Karen

Hi, @kb281, how did the recovery continued over the weeks, months? I want to do some research because the neurologists seem to underestemate the fysical and psychological effects on a large group of people.
