We can't recall any studies looking at a link between inoculations and lupus. That doesn't mean that there haven't been any though. If you look hard enough you may find one.

Generally medical research is conducted by doctors or phd students working within research centres of hospitals or universities. I'd suggest if you're interested in lupus research that you contact somewhere like UCLH which has a fantastic research dept and try to speak to somebody there.

thanks for the quick response Paul, who would you suggest would be best to contact, I have found doing a blind call often doesn't get good results. thanks, Mark

I'm afraid I don't know who in particular would be best placed to respond to your query.

Hi Mark,

I developed the main bulk of my Lupus symptoms (was just really vertigo before) after having a load of vaccinations before a trip I was supposed to take to Africa....fell very ill, very quickly. I asked one of the cover doctors at the Louise Coote unit the other day (forget her name) and she said there has been some research to suggest that it's possible that some people may have mild atuoimmune disorders without realising it and then the hit of a big dose of drugs/vaccinations stresses the immune system and results in autoimmune problems.

Good luck, will follow your progress with much interest!!

thanks for that steadilymovingforward: excuse the ignorance but where is the unit you mentioned, is it at UCLH?

your story sounds a little like mine, had to have the hep b injections so I could do my nurse training then wham, 3 year flare. this things had control for to long, now to start fighting back.

St Thomas' in London. OMG. When you said Hep B I thought...not with me it was the vaccinations...pretty sure I had Hep B in 2006 because I was a support worker...when I had the vertigo!

So it looks like perhaps then that hep b may have sparked off the vertigo in 2006 and

the muscle issues and everything else happened after the vaccinations in 2009?!

but possibly not!...I don't know anymore!

Glad you are fighting the fight....give Lupus a right hook for me hee hee!

Take care :)

I have just emailed Professor Isenberg at uclh to ask if theres any research or if not would they be interested in doing some especially with health care workers, awaiting response.

oh yep I intend kickin its butt :) :)

Hi guys just received this from the professor

" Dear Mr Jeffers, In haste- there is very little convincing evidence that immunisations of any kind act as a trigger to SLE . I reviewed this a few years ago (O'Neill S, Isenberg DA. LUPUS 2006; 15: 778-83) and I'm not aware of any really new evidence that has added significantly since then.

Best wishes and good luck

David Isenberg

Academic Director of Rheumatology

University College London.

I am not down hearted by this reply, will look at the research and also look further a field for answers, lupus can run but it cant hide for much longer :)

Go Mark!!

There HAVE been studies regarding links of lupus & TB so theoretically, if there was a particular immunisation that COULD TRIGGER the lupus, surely it would b the BCG jab & NOT Hep B. (My lupus was already apparent & fully diagnosed many moons b4 I had my Hep B jab).

hi sher78 there isThere have been numerous reports that the Hepatitis B vaccine is linked to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a syndrome marked by severe fatigue, brain fogs, and muscle pains among other symptoms, would you not say that the similarities are there, could there be an overlap, possibly or even a hybrid form of lupus?

its funny how there is proven cases of the inoculation causing m.s. I would suggest this could then in theory cause lupus, all autoimmune.

Hi Mark,

Just a quick thought....

There have been many questions about whether MMR can cause some children to develop Austism. There are theories to suggest that some children that have regressed following the MMR and later diagnosed as Austistic may have been predisposed to developing austism and the MMR exacerbates this. Obviously these are just theories any many do not believe one can 'develop' autism. However, going along the same vain as the vaccinations and autoimmune disorders...do you think there is something to be said about a massive assault on the system (i.e. multiple vaccinations simultaneously) that stresses the system into atypical functioning or developing predisposed conditions??

yes definitely and its actually discussed in depth In regards to ME, I spoke to Joan at the chester M.E support group and she furnished me with excellent information and it clearly states many experts believe that this is the case, not only vaccines but infections, trauma and emotional stress, will send u info if you like its very very good and clear. mark. p.s REST :)

Oh yeah, trauma and stress too...good point. Sounds fab, thanks!

Resting imminent..engage! zzzzzzzzzzzz

argh...I meant 'vein'...think I need to go to bed!

(PS Also recognise that I am referring to autsim as a condition here to explain my proposal but personally I recognise people with autism not as disabled but individuals whose difference is to be respected...and similarities to be acknowledged too!) :)

Hi there,

I had hepb vaccination a few years before befing diagnosed but my first flare started after MMR vaccine. I have absolutely no doubt that that was the trigger.

Chronic fatigue syndrome is linked to too many factors mainly becasue noone knows where it comes from. A couple of years ago there was an enormous debate about endogenous viruses and XMRV in particular that could be the casue CFS and research done by different groups seemed to contradict one another. At the moment there are too many controversies about the nature of the syndrome to be able to find any real causative effect or triggers.

As for lupus we know that the disease is genetic and there are many factors that include infectious agants. So I'm sure you could say that a vaccine that activates immune system in a manner similar to pathogen could also trigger lupus flare... I'm not sure however that this could be attributed to a specific type of vaccine...

I think they should look into the components of all the various vaccins - as they differ. I have read that some components have caused trouble for a number of people (including children) causing chronic fatigue, bells palsy etc, etc. There is a lot about this on the internet regarding the swine-flu vaccine, leaving people very disabled - but getting very little help (despite diagnosed as victims of the vaccin!). It's about time some (independent!) proper research was done on vaccins! Good luck Mark. xxx :)

Lupus has the genetic factor as does Autism. My son was adopted at birth and not in great shape due to a negligent pregnancy. He receive a whole bunch of vaccines in one day including the MMR and had a seizure. He became completely derailed form there on in. If a faulty immune system is assaulted by a virus or bacteria then the reaction can be quite damaging. Most kids do O.K. with their shots whist others are permanently damaged. Vaccinations here in the U.S. used to contain a preservative which was primarily composed of mercury which is a neurotoxin We lupies already have fraglie immune systems so anything and everything can trigger a flare.
