Is it really Lupus

Blood work came back stating positive ANA and positive dsDNA. Slight rash on my face, fatigue and joint pain especially my knees. Can it be a misdiagnosis?

Hi Hidden, With the blood work and your symptoms, I am sorry to say that it is really Lupus. Many prayers to you, your family and friends. Yes, your diagnosis is quite scary at first. Now you have a diagnosis for your symptoms. Now you can manage your disease and with the love and support of those around you, you will be able to cope.

There are worse things that could have happen to you. Lupus is manageable. It is not a life sentence. With getting proper sleep, diet, exercise, and medications, you can live a healthy life.

It is fine to scream and cry. You are human. Actually, stress management is crucial to dealing with this disease.

Please read some and take everything with a grain of salt. Always ask questions.

The Lupus Foundation of America is a good source to start with. Start on line for blogs or online support group to also vent and get information. Any advice, check it with your physician.

You need a good medical team who are knowledgeable about Lupus, current medication and research: especially PCP, and rheumatologist.

Then you may need other doctors or specialists to help with symptoms like a dermatologist (for your skin and hair issues. A good periodontist for teeth and gums. A place where you can go for relaxation. Take a tai chi or yoga class. Take time to pamper yourself, a place to go and relax or meditate.

God is with you.

And you are never alone.
