Blood markers

I am jus getting over a very bad chest infection, on having my bloods tested and results was CRP 203 and ESR 79. After several courses of antibiotics and on the mend (hopefully) my new reading today was CRP 47 ESR 73. Can anyone advise me why the crp is dropping , but not my esr rate. Thanks very much if you can help, I feel quite confused. Thanks Lucymay

Dear LucyMay,

Welcome to LUpus Patients Understanding & Support (LUPUS) at HealthUnlocked.

As a rule of thumb, if there is an infection, there will be an elevation in CRP and ESR.

Having said that, only your own doctor can explain your blood tests to you, based on all your clinical history.

ESR is an inflmmatory marker and again, as a rule of thumb, a "normal" CRP (0.5) and an elevated ESR would suggest inflammation but not from an infection.

I am neither a medical doctor nor a bio-chemist and cannot answer the question, no one can except your own doctor.
