So here we go again 😔 went for my 9 month CT was given the still all clear in my lungs and lymph nodes but say I have it in my right kidney, my oncologist said squarecomas NSCLC does not spread to your kidneys but urology said it’s from my lungs! I have refused a biopsy this time they are going to take out anyway so why does it matter which type I have they can sort that after, has anyone else had this ?

No, I don’t have this but in the 9 years I’ve communicated with other lung cancer patients there have been some odd mets. Remember, a lesion develops its own blood source when it reaches 3cm.

Once it has attached to the circulatory system it can shed a cell and metastasize anywhere blood can reach. In other words, there is nowhere on the body it can’t mets to. I’ve heard from patients who had mets to their leg, eye and penis.

Dear Lulu45

Sorry to hear about your kidney and as you know when this is removed, full analysis will be done on the tissue. It is encouraging to hear that you are clear in both your lungs and lymph nodes.

It may be clearer to discuss this at your next consultant appointment when all results are available, which I am sure you will do.

If you wish to discuss anything you can call us on our free nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200

All the very best with your surgery.

Kind regards

Sorry to hear this - sometimes tumours have more than one type within them - so some can be a mix of squamous and adenocarcinoma but this can only be found out when biopsied. I had my lobectomy without biopsy and it was done during and after the surgery to then find out which treatment would be best. My understanding is that lung cancer can spreads to bone, brain, liver and kidney once in lymph system. How does Urology know it's from your lungs - have they done a blood test to determine circulating tissue DNA if they haven't done a biopsy? Hope you get some answers soon but I'd agree with you - let them do what they have to and then sort out the 'what is' rather than anticipate the 'what if'. good luck.
