Hi I am new here last July my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer NSCLC stage IV (T4 N3 M1C) ( Pleural Effusion) in right lung and was all ready in the lymph nodes, he had to have emergency radio therapy first then had Imuno therapy he had 3 rounds got hospitalized twice low blood pressure first then very breathless he had 250ml of fluid drained but unfortunately he passed away on the 16/11/18, he was only 65 it has been very hard as I am younger than him and we have 2 children 17 and 14 but we are getting through slowly, work have been amazing I am a community carer we had no carers I nursed him from start to finish, in December work held a raffle and all proceeds went to Roy Castle Lung Cancer charity in his memory , if any one feels like talking I will be willing to talk if you are going through the same experience as I did.

Hello, I'm so sorry to read this and feel for you all , try to look after yourself too, its so easy to look after everyone else and in some way this helps block things out( it did me). Its so so difficult- it's like reading my life story. My beautiful husband passed away in June 2017 with the same symptoms- unfortunately a hospital blunder - he was taken for an x-ray when he shouldn't have been- caused his sudden passing. I'm also much younger and things have been hard. I still cry everyday..... talking is good but can be difficult at times as I need to be strong for the children.....I'm here too if you want a chat. Much love x

Hi missjackiel

I am sorry for your loss and know how you feel I still cry every day over little things, yes we have to be strong for the kids but it is hard, I have to say the way the hospital and every one were fantastic with my husband from the chest x ray in June through all tests to confirming that it was Cancer, and where we went from there I can't fault them but little did we know we would only have nearly 4 months with him, and to come down in the morning to find him gone peacefully in his sleep, being devastated is an understatement, it is just so hard day to day as the house is so quiet now even though he wasn't talking much his presence was enough, I am not working at the moment waiting to hear from the councelling department for bereavement counselling, and just found out work are not paying ssp.

Thank you

Dear Angh79,

Thank you for sharing your experience with all of us on the forum.Looking after your husband must have been extremely stressful.Having said that when you reflect on his cancer journey it will be of some comfort to know that you were at his side caring for him throughout his illness. It is really very kind of you to think of others given that you are still in the grieving process yourself.

Thank you very much for donating the proceeds from the raffle to the Roy Castle Foundation in your husbands memory.

Kind regards,

All the team at the Roy Castle 'Ask the nurse helpline'.
