A newbie!

Hi, I'm 69 !and diagnosed with nsclc with egfr+ in Feb. On Tarceva 100mg after reacting to 150mg. I have 3 grown up children and 4 grandchildren and the best hubby ever. Just wanted to introduce myself and if anyone wishes to swap stories please feel free to contact me. Btw I'm also a mad Andy Murray fan!

Hi Granscotland! Sorry to hear of your diagnosis, and good luck with your treatment. I'm 64, one son aged 24, just starting life on his own, new house, good job, and I've just been diagnosed in February with lung cancer in the right lung. Waiting now to start chemotherapy, and trying to get my head around it, and get everything in place to cope - I live on my own with two hooligan dogs!!! This is a wonderful website - and you'll find lots of support from people going through what we are going through! Good luck, and keep posting!

Hi Lisa, thank you for your response, it is always good to talk to others with the same 'problem'! I have two sons and a daughter and would you believe my eldest son worked for astra zeneca on the drug that I will be on when tarceva ceases to work! This cancer is a real nasty, I went to the doctor for a cough in January and came out with cancer! I have found a fantastic website inspire.com and there are all sorts of conditions on there with people from all over the world. You just use the search box and type in the cancer you have and it goes direct to folk with the same as you. I have found it a massive help in dealing with the side effects of the drug, it is also a good place to go if you are feeling down or just want to chat, a bit like this site. I don't have any pets (I had a dog and I could never replace him) also we live very near the main road and it would always be a worry. Thanks Iris - good luck to you too! I'll go and check out the inspire site when I have a minute. I know what you mean about replacing the dog - it took me 10 years to replace my last two - and I only meant to have one smallish one now that I'm older, but he is a hooligan (spaniel/terrier cross) so got a Romanian rescue pup from the charity I support to keep him company. Trouble is he is a real old-fashioned "mongrel" and grew a LOT bigger than we expected!!! Keep smiling! Lis

Hi Lis, my brother had an Afghan hound and I don't think he realised how big they grew! I'll bet they keep you fit though! Off to do some weeding in the garden while the sun is out. Take care. Iris

Thank you for your response and kind words. Already I have been incontact with others in the same situation as myself and I personally have found it is good to talk to others about the disease.

It is always good to be able to have another point of contact as it is not always possible to contact my onc nurse and I appreciate your offer.

At the moment I am just starting out on the tarceva trail and who knows when that might end and what other drugs may be available down the line.
