I have recently undergone a CT scan which showed a 1.7cm lymph nodes growing on my lung. Had my broncoscopy last Tuesday and due to shortages in my local hospital will not see Oncologist until next Tuesday (5-5-15). I have no symptoms apart from a shortness of breath, oh and having Breast cancer four years ago. My question is has anyone been diagnosed with lung cancer without all the usual symptoms.

Thank you for your reply Sheeni27. Mine was picked up on a Chest, Abdomen and Pelvic CT Scan as I was having stomach problems. But that scan came back ok apart from the abnormal lymph node on one of the lungs. Think it is a blessing in disguise as it has been caught early but it still does not stop the worry. I am so glad you are doing good and still working away, gives hope to the likes of me. I wish you the best of health for the future and thanks again for your response xxx 😄

Hi Lainey, I was diagnosed with a 25 mm tumour in my right lung in 2011, only symptoms were occasions night sweats, sometimes a bit chilled after golf and clubbed fingers. There was possible lymph node involvement. I had successful RLL and adjuvant hemp. So consider myself cured of that one. Unfortunately I was diagnosed with a different cancer in jan with which has spread from tumour in right lung to lymph nodes in chest and liver. I had absolutely no symptoms and it was only my annual X-ray that picked it up. Your correct in saying that your outlook is more favourable because of early diagnosis. Good luck with any treatment.

Hi Rab, thank you so much for your reply.

I am sorry to hear about your new diagnosis and hope that you come through treatment with flying colours and are soon back on the golf course. Reading through some of the replies it is interesting that some people have minor symptoms and others none. I see my Oncologist on Tuesday next week so whatever the outcome I am prepared to battle it all the way.

Once again good luck and wishing you a speedy recovery, Elaine 😀 xx

I was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer in Dec 2014. The only symptoms that I had were a shortness of breath and a fairly bad pain down my side when I breathed in deeply.

I was sent for an x-ray and it showed fluid on the lung. We then had a broncoscopy which showed nothing and then a lung operation where they drained the fluid and took a bit to biopsy. They cannot operate as the cancer is in the pleura as well as some tumours in the lungs and lymph nodes. I have had my 4 sessions of chemo the fluid had reduced after 2 sessions of chemo. I have just had another ct scan and I will get the results of that tomorrow. The next plan is possibly radiotherapy. But the only symptom was being breathless.

Hi first of all I hope you get good news on your results and thank you for your reply. I get a bit short of breath and discomfort down the side but nothing to moan about. Just a bit freaked that the growth showed up in the first place but at least I am in good hands and whatever happens next week I will be fighting all the way 😄

Hi Lainey,

I was diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer in May 2014 it had spread to 2 lymph nodes. I was treated aggressively with radiotherapies and chemotherapies. As of today there is no sign of disease. Certainly being caught early on a routine X-ray for a totally different condition gave me the very best chance. I wish you luck and do try to think positively. Where in the country are you? I'm in the NW and went to Clatterbridge Cancer Centre which I can't praise highly enough.

The very best of luck, and don't hesitate to message me if I can help.

Hi Tilstongal thank you so much for your reply. I am from Glasgow so attend the Beatson Oncology Centre who are pretty awesome and very supportive.

I get my results a week today and it is the waiting that is difficult. People are saying if it was bad news I would know by now but that is not always the case.

I will drop an email to you later on and let you know how it goes xxx

Good luck Lainey with your appointment. Try to be positive - but also think of any questions you may wish to ask if things don't turn out quite so well so that you will not do the 'rabbit caught in the headlights' impression that I did. It is terrifying waiting and your mind doesn't rest.

I'll be thinking of you. X

Thanks just all the waiting is now getting to me. Family and friends think they are being helpful when they give the "no news is good news" and "if it was Cancer you would know by now" speeches. I am of the opinion that if it was routine I would have a letter by now saying no further action as biopsies are clear. Roll on Tuesday. Hope you are well and keeping healthy 😄

Meant to say I will write down my questions and get baby brother to ask them in case I freak and do the rabbit thing........lol 🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰

Hi there Lainey,

I'm glad that you have found support on this site. Unfortunately it is very common for people not to experience symptoms in the early stages, and frequently it is only discovered accidentally. It is good advice to write down any questions you may have prior to your appointment and also to jot things down during your appointment, as it can be difficult to retain every piece of information.

Wishing you all the best,

Beth, on behalf of information and support.

Thanks Beth, still a bit freaked out and the waiting is horrible, two weeks from biopsy to consultation has been way too long in my opinion but they are busy and this was the first appt they could give me. The help on here has been awesome and it has helped greatly xx

Oh Lainey I've just remembered following Bethcochranes comment, that if you've got a smart phone ask permission to record the consultation. My consultant is happy with that and it is really useful later.

Good idea, I never thought of that. I think my Consultant will be ok with that as he knows with chemo brain I forget things. How long did you wait for your results from biopsy, just curious xxx

Hi ,It is frustrating waiting around for all the results to come back to you ,however until they are back perhaps you should cross your fingers and hope it is not as bad as your supposing and even if it is something perhaps it is small enough not to warrent too much treatment .The symptoms i had for lung cancer were unusual it was just joint pains ,no shortness of breath what so ever,so every type of lung cancer can appear in appear in a different way.Try and keep an open mind at this point .

Thanks Diane55, I am seeing Oncologist on Tuesday so not long now. I am of the opinion if it is Cancer it has been picked up quick and will only be minimal treatment. I think just going through Breast cancer it is in the back of my mind that it is secondaries. I will meet it head on whatever and will keep you updated xxxx
