Update On Appointment

My mom went to her first oncology appointment after 5 months post op. Oncologist said she had a carcinoid tumor and it was very rare. She said my mom should get a PET scan soon to make sure it has not appeared anywhere else. She said that she will be getting checked but the chance of it coming back in her lung is less than 5%. My mom feels better and so do I. Of course there is always that little fear of scans but we are very thankful.

We will keep following up with scans now and hoping for the best. Thank you all for the kind encouraging words in my previous post❤️

Glad your mom got good news. Can her oncologist make the appointment for the PET scan? I would get that done asap just so it's done.

She referred us to the imaging place, our appointment for the scan is Nov 25 ☺️

Carcinoids are NETs - neuroendocrine tumours so differ in their biology from lung cancer but are often 'lumped together' with thoracic malignancies as there isn't a 'natural' home for them. The BBC journalist Nick Robinson had one of these surgically removed some years ago which increased awareness at the time. Pleased that your mum has been given the correct diagnosis - and that you can be reassured by that. good luck.
