Being diagnosed or having someone close to you diagnosed with lung cancer can be scary and unnerving. It can be hard to make sense of all the information you have been told and it’s very easy to feel isolated and alone.

Over the past few months, HealthUnlocked has been conducting research on the Lung Cancer Support Community. This is to learn more about the emotional impacts of a diagnosis on an individual and the ways that people reach out to find information, support and ways of coping. We’ve created a 4 part video series in which people with lung cancer discuss these topics in their own words. These videos will be shared in the community over the next few weeks, starting today.

Part 1: Getting support

Reaching out to a wider lung cancer community is an important part of managing yours or your loved one's diagnosis. From research recently conducted by HealthUnlocked, we found that people benefit from speaking to others who have been affected by lung cancer, and value becoming an advocate and supporting others who have been diagnosed. The most common way people reach out to others is through online communities, such as this one.
