I am 54 years old and a single mom to a 9 year old. Went in for trouble taking a deep breath and a cough and came our with a mass on my lung opening and now they think its small cell lung cancer. I dont have the full report yet with all the details but know enough to be really scared I am not going to make it. I definitely need a partner to go through this with if you can help me with that I would appreciate it. My cell (248) 701 -8944. The sooner the better as I also would love to hear about doctors and cancer treatment centers instead of doing everything locally

Thanks. Carol

Carol I know the diagnosis is scary. What state do you live in. I am not as familiar with sclc as I am nsclc but I know others here are. Prayers are with you.

Carol, thank you so much for reaching out - we want to help! Let's take this one step at a time. Please email me at: pbezruki@freetobreathe.org. If you send your home address (all of our records are secure and confidential, we do not share your information) I would love to send you our free Patient Information Kit. We have Resource Guides that might be helpful too.

I will private message you. I will send you a great link for finding a cancer treatment center and a doctor. Please know you are not alone, you have found a wonderful community of people here. Hugs.

Hi Carol. When would be a good time to call you? I need someone to talk to. My # is 989-763-4441. My name is David. 7yrs Lung cancer survivor.

I know how scary this can be, I was diagnosed with squamous cell lung cancer and emphysema 4 1/2 years ago (I was 56).

I just want to say that you are not alone, there are a lot of very caring people here, and don't right yourself off just yet. Cancer is no longer the death sentence it used to be.

Hi Carol, I just saw a clinical trial for small cell lung cancer. It was on lungcancerclinicalresearch.com. I have non small cell lung cancer, so I don’t know much about small cell, but I just saw this clinical trial a few minutes ago. I would check it out, because it states time is of the essence. Good luck to you, and I would be happy to talk to you anytime. My name is Brenda and my number is(661) 350-4103

Carol,

Sending positive thoughts....I'm not very familiar with Small Cell LC, but hope you'll find support soon. I'm Stage IV Non small Cell and understand your fear. Check for mire help/support at your cancer center. Most have a social service department. You are not alone....best wishes...! You'll be in my thoughts....

Welcome to the Free to Breathe Boards. Only about 15% of lung cancers are small cell. The Dream Team that was formed by the Stand Up 2 Cancer and the Moonshot Program were told to make all cell a priority. At this time its probably the most it has ever been researched and that can work well for you.

The most exciting studies (imho) are those that combine the traditional Chemo with immunotherapy.

If you are not being seen at an National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated Comprehensive Cancer Center do arrange to have s second opinion done at one.

Take a friend or family member to appointments to take notes. Plan for the worst and hope for the best.

Hi Carol, I am a small cell lung cancer survivor, 13 years this coming June. I was told I had a 40% chance of it being cured. I did a clinical trial that was aggressive on chemo and radiation. The treatments put me in the hospital several times to have my body pumped back up and I lost 45 pounds. It was scary at the time but I don't remember it as being a really terrible time. I hope you have family or a friend who can accompany you to treatments, but I was able to take myself when my husband was not able to. I will be praying for you and your child as you go through this together. I pray you have a great Cancer Center close by and that you have someone to help you through this.

I echo Denzie's thoughts. If you can get to a NCI partner cancer center, GO! You have your best chance of getting into a clinical trial at one of these centers, and you will be able to meet with an oncologist who is a specialist in lung cancer.

Caro, It is scary. But don't panic. Get all the facts first. Then get treated. I am also 54. I was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma on December 20th. I had my left upper lobe removed on Jan 4th. Currently the next step for me is chemo. One step at time.
