Could we mention those clinics, therapists and doctors that have helped you in your lymphedema management? (name and areas) Maybe I and many others could find someone, and somewhere that we could ask to be refered to?

Hello,

There is a UK wide listing of therapists etc., already published on the LSN website . . .

lymphoedema.org/

Hope this will be a good starting point for your ideas.

Cheers

My idea was that therapists, clinics, etc are recommended by patients who are happy with them

I think the idea is great. However, if we were to recommend specific professionals, it may be frustrating for those people who cannot access treatments "out of area". I come across this alot - not only for lymphoedema patients, but other conditions too. Perhaps when forum users come here and ask where they can get help, we could send them a 'private message' giving recommendations if we know of people in their area? Just a thought.

I am VERY lucky I go to the Nottingham University Hospital, the Lymphoedema team are the greatest. Nurses ALL are brilliant and bend over backwards to help, they always listen to any problems and try to sort them. Barbara the receptionist is is always cheerful when you check in. I have to good fortune to see Dr. Vaughan Keely - who is so kind and knowledgeable, also had the good fortune to see Professor Mortimer. So I couldn't wish for better treatment.

Hi Gins

I go to Kendal Lymphology Centre where Denise Hardy and her team give me fantastic treatment and support. They have a website which as well as giving you information about the clinic also allows you to download a GP referral form. I dont know where you are in Cumbria but hopefully it wont be too far away for you to travel.

good luck

Hi Gins-

I see nurse specialists from Hospice at home- in my local hosptal in Whitehaven- I got reffered through the vascular nurses.

then I got my GP to refer me to St Georges London- for specialist gudicane. it coosts no more to refer a patient to a local service or a out of area service - its the same cost- we pick up travel, or claim back if on certain benefits.

ridiculously understaffed, ridiculously under-resourced, ridiculously huge geographical area to cover for such a small team, ridiculously inundated with referrals

very knowledgeable, very skilled, very experienced, very approachable, very problem-solving & supportive, very fab

currently already shrinking .... as the nhs changes i just hope they survive

Hi norberte, I fully concur with you on under everything in this area. Working for the NHS in an administrative role, the changes that are happenng within my area of work are alarmingly frightening. I cannot imagine how under-everything those working in the front line are coping with being under-resourced etc etc.

On a more personal note would be interested to hear of the specific clinics in the areas you mentioned as I am getting together a file of info about lymphodema to show to my own GP so that he will refer me to a clinic instead of saying "nothing can be done"!
