Abdominal lymphoedema

As well as lymphoedema in both legs and my right arm it appears I have it in my tummy as well!! Anybody know where and if I can get compression garments for this?? Knickers or a corset maybe??

do you know what caused this?

I often wonder if I have that (as well as the lymphoedma in my legs/feet) because of the injuries/cuttings from Caesareans, as I have always been swollen in the lower stomach ever since then.

no I'm not sure. My lymph nurse never really said what caused it, I just thought it was part and parcel of the whole problem!!

I asked that because my leg/ankle/feet lymphoedma is secondary and was triggered by injuries.

I brought a couple of pairs of Primarks control shorts (bit like cycle shorts) my lympodema nurse recommend them as they cost about £5 seem to help.

Hi Sue57 - If you are seeing a lymphoedema nurse/therapists have a chat to them as there are special garments for abdominal lymphoedema but they can be quite a challenge to wear! as ZeZe-nan says some people get on better with control shorts.

I bet they are!! Can't be much worse than the stockings though!! My lymph nurse wasn't too sure if they were available or not. Will have to ask her; problem is I'm not scheduled to see her in the near future. My local hospital has stopped the lymph clinic and it's now miles away!!

There are companies which provide garments for abdominal swelling or abdominal wraps or will include compression in the panty part of tights. There are also shorts and knickers available and with correct measurment and fitting by your therapist can be very comfortable.

I get cycle style shorts made to measure by Jobst which my specialist nurse measures me for. I use them when I am running but they should not be too bad to wear all day - just a bit tight when putting off and on.
