I have lymphoedema in my left leg. Originally I was prescribed mediven thigh length compression garment. For many years I dropped out of the system. Last year I managed to get back and attend a clinic every six months. I have been prescribed Jobst elvarex stockings that I have been using for the last 10 months. My leg has got larger. Has anyone else had a similar experience. Ann
Compression stockings: I have lymphoedema in my left leg... - LSN
Compression stockings
Report to your clinic. Your leg should not normally be getting bigger
Oh dear Annie, sounds like your leg or stocking measurements haven't been done correctly as that shouldn't really happen with arm or leg lymphoedema. Like Teresa May I advise reporting to the clinic and making a fuss!
Hi Annie
My legs, both below knee are getting bigger too !! I have recently ( 4 weeks ago ) had an assessment too and despite it being obvious my right leg in particular has gotten bigger with compression my concern was really just brushed aside. I was told to just keep on with the wraps. Since starting this journey years ago I don’t know but the care seems to have disappeared somewhat, everything is rushed, no measurements taken etc. I have home visits as I have other issues so I guess this could be a factor, the District Nurses are the same, in and out as quick as possible . It is probably down to the area you live and funding. I would definitely try and get it resolved, you might have better luck than I did, fingers crossed.
As others have said, get back to the clinic: best asap rather than wait until your next appointment. You might need remeasuring or perhaps a higher compression class is required.
Other possibilities include putting on weight? Also lack of exercise cause result in an increase of swelling even if compression is worn.
