Tiredness behind the knee area?

Hi All,

Quick question. I wear class 2 and 3 knee high stockings which work well, provide a good amount of compression. I don't really get much tiredness in my legs and definitely no pain but what I've noticed more recently is that I experience tiredness in my knee area on the left leg (behind the knee cap), and sometimes in the thigh.

When I had my lymphedema evaluation with the dye, the knee area and above the knee didn't really have an obstruction. I also just had my appt at my local clinic so I haven't got that option.

Would a thigh high stocking help?

It might be worth trying a thigh high stocking to see if it helps.

Hi Blade1, no-one will know but you if it will help - trial and error. Compression stockings are to help with managing oedema, not tiredness. Most people go from knee high to thigh high when they have swelling into the knee/thigh, or they find that there is a collection of fluid just above their knee hi stocking. Is your tiredness related to oedema or something else? Like lovesradio said, you can try it and see. As a physio I would say - if you are feeling tired, try exercises first to strengthen your knee/leg. But if there is more swelling into the knee/thigh, then, yes, try a thigh high.

Tiredness under your kneecap is caused by weak muscles and tendons that support your knee and knee cap. Been there--done that. I went to PT to learn how to strengthen the muscles and tendons that support the patella. You can google patella exercises and find YouTube videos on how to do it yourself. Good luck.
