I'm going to be getting lymphadema therapy and full leg wraps. Are you able to walk around and bend your legs at all

It will feel weird, but being mobile, walking around etc, whilst in bandages really helps with loss of volume.

They will ensure that you can bend your legs as they bandage . Walking is actually encouraged when you have the bandaging because this encourages the movement of lymph . It’ll seem like it lasts forever but you can get very good results . I’ve only ever had one leg bandaged at a time even though I’ve got bilateral Lymohoedema because one is worse than the other . This does give you more freedom . I think it also depends whether you’re going to be bandaged to your knees or up to your thighs . The main issue I think that I’d have is the heat , it feels like sleeping in a duvet at night so having one bare leg was always important to me . You’ll certainly be mobile though but you will need to make sure that you’ve got suitable footwear and that you have a regular timescale for the bandages to be changed . On one of my bandaging sessions they wanted to leave them on for five days as it was going over a bank holiday and that was just a step too far for me . Just check the details of your care plan , how long it’s going to be , make sure they measure you before they start as this can't always be taken for granted as you need to know what you’ve lost . It is worth doing though so good luck with it .

Last year I had both my legs bandaged for 4 weeks (they were changed twice a week). They encourage you to be as active as possible as it maximises the reduction. I just carried on with my life as usual and went to work, walking at least an hour a day as I normally would. Basically I didn't change my usual routine at all. The treatment was very effective. I completely lost the large rolls of fluid-filled tissue around my ankles and the texture of my skin is so soft. For me, keeping busy made me forget about the bandages. The only thing I found a nuisance was not being able to have a proper bath or shower for 4 weeks, just a strip wash but it was so worth it! I now wear compression stockings which are so comfortable I don't even realise I'm wearing them most of the time! Good luck with your bandaging - I think you will be very pleased with the outcome! x

I had my right leg wrapped for 4 weeks about a year ago. I could bend my right knee enough to allow me to drive a car (an automatic) most of the time though not always immediately about rebandaging. Walking was encouraged and wasn't really a problem though I might have struggled to get over a style. I took to walking a couple of miles after each appointment to loosen up the bandages.

Thanks to all that answered my post about mobility after full leg wrapping. I'm anxious to get started with therapy and wrapping. Been dealing with this for years and finally was able to get doctors to send me for therapy. Can't wait to feel more normal legs and feet again.
