Hi All

I was diagnosed with lymphoedema in my leg a couple of years ago. The cause has not been identified.

It inconveniences me but I am so grateful it is far milder than I see others suffer.

I am obstinate, I know that, and continue to walk through any pain.

I am finding that by sticking to medical advice to walk at least an hour a day I am in too much discomfort to do much housework afterwards. If I do housework early I cannot do the full hour walking.

I was so pleased with how much the compression stockings improved the size of my legs that I would not attempt to go without them. Applying immediately on rising, just as advised. Removing them as I get ready for bed.

I hope my puny problems do not offend

Hello TeresaMay, sorry to hear about your problems. I have had lymphoedema in just one leg for a couple of years, diagnosed about a year ago but I only realised the diagnosis recently.

Like you I'm still finding my way around the problems. I walk a lot, and am having to figure out how much I can manage and how much is too much. Unfortunately I usually only know what's too much by doing it, then realising I've made things worse.

Wonder if you've thought about splitting your hour walking into two? maybe a short walk in the morning, do some jobs when you get back, then another walk late afternoon. I expect that even four blocks of 15 minutes walking interspersed with other things would benefit you.

Good luck with it! Deborah

Thank you for your thoughts. When the weather is bad I do restrict my walking to small bouts but for shopping I have top walk more than 30 mins.

I comfort myself by saying dust protects the furniture!

Hi TeresaMay, I find walking more than 30 minutes makes my lymphodeema worse. I have spinal problems, so this may contribute to that, I'm not sure. I find swimming & walking in the pool, doesnt aggravating the lymphodeema at all, helps & gives me an alternative form of exercise. Best of luck with it. Meg
