my mother has limphoedema after breast cancer surgery. The arm is twice bigger than the other one and it's getting painfull at the end of the day. At the moment she is doing treatment on the breast cancer and I would like to ask if you need an documents for full remition or the procedure can be done any time?

Hi Joana - your Mum will need to wait until her treatment (chemo? radiotherapy?) is completed before she could be assessed for microsurgery. Has she been referred to a lymphoedema clinic, and/or supplied with compression sleeves to wear?

Hello Lynora,

thanks for the answer. She is taking some kind of pills and one of them is kind of chemo. She lives in Bulgaria and unfortunately here the limphoedema treatment is realy poor. The doctors say that there nothing to be done about that just massages. Nobody told us about the compression sleeves to wear. We don't know what to do. she is so fustrated and crying every night about her arm.

Are these compression sleeves going to help somehow?

Oh Joana, I'm so sorry your Mum is going through this so far away. I have spoken to people in Bulgaria before, and it is such a shame that they have no care - well, not the kind of care we now expect here in the UK.

If she is able to access massage (probably manual lymph drainage) then she should take it - it does help, and is not invasive but gentle and helpful in her situation.

Where are you living - are you in Bulgaria too?

Hello Lynora,

the situation is under control for now. We do MLD at home to make the arm lighter and softner. Thank you for your help and advises.

No I am living in UK :)

Compression sleeves not always suitable for everyone. Elevating the arm helps and manual drainage which specialist shows you how to do. Should see her doctor for medication to help with the pain.
