Morning Liz, I would think they would be ok because they are sort of a compression sock, give them a try just take off on a night but use a good moisturiser as it's important not to let your skin not dry out.

They do sell them because I have some, they are beside the underwear the packs of knickers in my store in Sunderland but all the stores should sell them they are folded on a card I want firm support but only had medium support in my size.

Have you been given them by a clinic or bought them from a shop? You posted a few days ago to say you wear socks but only for short periods as they hurt. You should get measured by a therapist, so that you can be supplied with appropriate garments that will provide comfort and help manage the lymphoedema.

Thank you for following all entries and giving all your great advise on the forum! I think it might help if we have a small introductory paragraph saying that all lymphedema patients should find a certified MLD specialist sooner than later, especially if they are new to it and have no support from their GP or other consultants. Prevention of settling of lymphedema is key and time can be precious. I know that it can be costly but, so can being immobilised... Also, trying to exercise lightly can do wonders, Self massaging, etc. Please do not wait to be seen by specialists, we need to be pro-active... I saw Prof Mortimer in September, developed lymphedema in December. At least, I was a bit prepared for things to come...

So a small intro to all new members and reminders to older ones. MLD is a great tool and it is out there. I wish all GP practices had an MLD nurses or at least given some training...

If you were given them to wear post surgery, and if they are white with a gap in the sole of the foot and thigh high, these are to prevent a thrombus and must not be worn for Lymphoedema.

I would say better than nothing but, the ones for the lymphatic system are woven in a different way and offer different style compression. I would look for an MLD specialist in my area at the same time, they could offer bandaging during the visit. As Lynora says, please do not use them if they are hurting, that is an indication they are most likely not right for you!

Best wishes,

Athina
