I know - I just wanted to know which article talks about lasix. Lasix is known as furosemide in the UK (which is where this site is based). Most patients know that it's not particularly useful in the treatment of lymphoedema - even though some medics seem convinced otherwise and still keep prescribing it!

My GP wanted to prescribe furosemide when I first started with my lymphoedema because she said it was water retention. I knew it wasn't as I'd had that before and this was different. it was my Macmillan nurse who said it was lymphoedema and got me a referral to the lymphoedema clinic.

That is because swollen ankles can also be a sign of heart problems which may be helped by the frusemide.

I was also given frusemide to start with, but it made no difference. When I stopped, again, apart from peeing less, there was no difference. This is because, as was explained to me, the blood circulation and the lymphatic system are different 'compartments' or systems. The lymphatic one drains into the circulatory system. Blood is filtered by the kidneys, which is where the frusemide (also called Lasix or furosemide), works.
